  • Central Machinery 95128 29" HEAVY DUTY TOOL STAND

Central Machinery 95128 29" HEAVY DUTY TOOL STAND

Basic rundown. This is not a complicated item, just a basic stand. The metal is kind of flimsy, the instructions stink just like most other HF tools. But it does what is expected of it. The user MUST use some sort of baseplate such as plywood to add rigidity, as the stand on its own, is pretty floppy. All in all worth the $19.99 on sale price, and not a penny more. The top mount where the actual tool goes is too small to be useful for most benchtop tools without a mount board anyway... It is usabl...

  • Central Machinery model 32208 4 speed 14" bandsaw initial impressions.

Central Machinery model 32208 4 speed 14" bandsaw initial impressions.

The Central Machinery Model 32208 4 speed 14" band saw, and its single speed sibling the 32206 (only difference appears to be the pulley setup), can be an amazing band saw bargain. I purchased mine with a markdown from $329.00 to $299.00, and then used a 15% off any one item in store coupon to get the saw at $255.00 + tax. Aside from a well used saw, even 10" saws are hard to come by in that price... The overall fit and finish of the saw ABOVE the stand appear to be on par with the bottom end ...

  • Jet Hybrid Table Saw

    Jet Hybrid Table Saw

Replaced my 20+ yr old Craftsman with the Jet ProShop Hybrid about 6 months ago. Finished my first big project - built in closet system for our master bedroom. Saw works great, and at $600 +/- it is a great value. Have a very small (20x20) garage, so opted for the Jet mobile base, too. Dust collection isn't the best, but the fence is fabulous and the alignments appear spot on use after use. The included miter gauge is not great ... use one of my Incra miter gauges depending on the activity. The stamped...

  • HF mobile tool base 95288

    HF mobile tool base 95288

I started off with a pine 2x4 and a Harbor Freight mobile base kit (item#95288). The kit calls for hardwood, but I think the pine will do just fine. I chopped 2 lengths of 2x4 on the miter saw. Then to the tablesaw for a rip down the middle. Next to the fun part. Lots of chips. Jointed all boards to finish dimensions of 1.25 x 1.5. Kit calls for 1.25" square, but the bottom of the brackets is open, so I left a bit extra on the height instead of turning it into sawdust. The directions provi...

Shop Vac 801-75-11 Sawdust Collection System **** UPDATED ****

The Shop Vac Sawdust Collection System Catalog #801-75-11, is a great dust collection alternative to those that lack the space, or funding for a dedicated comparable DC unit and plumbing. The kit comes will all the bits and pieces needed to assemble a basic, straight forward dust collection plumbing system, 36" pipe segments, 90 and 45 degree elbows, pipe couplers, directional tee fittings, friction fit blast gates, pipe hangers and hardware kit. For all but the most basic setups this is adequate...

  • Peachtree #369 50' 2.5" Heavy Duty Clear PVC Dust Collection Hose.

Peachtree #369 50' 2.5" Heavy Duty Clear PVC Dust Collection Hose.

Quick review of the hose. Good and flexible PVC material follows handheld tools like sanders super easy. Wire wrapped soft PVC is entirely too crushable. Be careful not to step on, or drop anything onto the hose! 50 foot bulk box of hose is a lifesaver for those of us wanting to make custom length hoses. I made 1 @ 20 feet, and 3 @ 10 feet out of mine. This was the least expensive hose I could find, which is NOT why I bought it. I wanted hose that I could make a 20 footer out of without splicing...

  • Peachtree #447 2.5" Screw End Dust Collection Hose Adapter

Peachtree #447 2.5" Screw End Dust Collection Hose Adapter

I recently picked up a 50 foot segment of Peachtree Woodworking's 2.5" clear PVC dust collection hose in order to make some custom length hoses. (That is a separate review). In order to terminate those hoses, I grabbed some of Peachtree's screw end dust collection hose adapters. A simple little device that is nothing more than an injection molded part with the standard 2.25" O.D. friction fitting on one end, a flange / stop in the middle, and a 2.5" left hand screw thread on the other. The mold...

  • Incra Universal Precision Positioning Jig

    Incra Universal Precision Positioning Jig

I picked this jig up when Rockler had a sale on it. If you bought the jig, you got the fence and right angle jigs free. Cost was $60 total. Normally about $120. (the $120 is the reason for the 4 for value. $60 is worth it, $120 is a bit high.) I've watched the video probably three times now. My hope was that I could go into the shop and have an easy time setting it up. Essentially, I did have an easy time. I was going to make 1/2 blind dovetails for a drawer. The drawer width was critica...

  • Anant Kamal.. better than Anant?

    Anant Kamal.. better than Anant?

I have seen several ask this question on various forums.. but few responses with the exception of the Kamal #10 rabbet. I don't think many others have been sold and probably because of the bad responses about the standard Anant. I can answer the question about the Kamal #7 jointer at this point. The Highland WW header says it is better machined and a step up from the standard Anant with a thicker iron. And.. the thicker iron resulted in a tighter fit and less gap in the throat opening. But.. not m...

  • Pittsburg 34387-2VGA 6" wood handle bar clamp.

Pittsburg 34387-2VGA 6" wood handle bar clamp.

I gave the rating a 1 on Documentation, because... Well do you REALLY need documentation on how to operate a bar clamp? I picked up a bunch of these based on price, and a friends recommendation. This review also mimics how I feel about the 12", and 24" sizes which I own, and use as well... The 6" bar clamp sold by Harbor Freight under the Pittsburg name comes with wooden tightening handles, quick adjust lever that you simply depress, and slide to as close as possible to your desired location, ...

  • Ryobi AP1301 thickness planer

    Ryobi AP1301 thickness planer

Had the older (better) AP1301 but never used it so sold. Recently needed a TP to plane off weathered wood on window trim after removing the old peeled paint. The DW and Ridgid were way more machine and way more weight plus more expensive than my needs for now. The only lightweight model was the Ryobi AP1301. Yes, it is lacking a height lock, has no tables, etc... but I really like two things about it. 1-it is under 60 pounds so very mobile. (I temporarily mount it on a board with bolt in...

  • Ryobi S652DX Quarter Sheet Sander

    Ryobi S652DX Quarter Sheet Sander

My wife and I have been working on a cabinet refinishing project in our kitchen, and in an effort to keep costs down on random orbital sander disks, I have been trying to use a quarter sheet sander. I started out with an old Makita quarter sheet sander that was loaned to me back in 1995, and the fellow that loaned it to me disappeared (coworker, quit his job, I never had is number, he never dropped back by to get the sander...). So I am trying to use this Makita, and all it can do is throw th...

  • HF 4-1/2" ANGLE GRINDER - ITEM 95578

    HF 4-1/2" ANGLE GRINDER - ITEM 95578

Not bad for under $9. Here's the bottom line. I need to cut "T-Posts" that are buried underground in three feet of concrete. (Can you say overkill?) Out to local HF to see what I can come up with. Found it onsale. This version comes with no wheels does have the flange washers and a spanner wrench . All you have to do is add cutoff or grinder wheel. For a few dollars more, I found a ten pack of metal cutoff wheels. Two bucks for safety glasses. For $21 with tax, I was able to quickly cut the T-P...

  • Harbor Freight's Central Machinery 38142 13" DP

    Harbor Freight's Central Machinery 38142 13" DP

I recently purchased the Harbor Freight Central Machinery 38142 13" 16 speed benchtop DP after looking at the Craftsman 12", Hitachi, Ryobi, Harbor Freight, Griz, Northern Tool, and Delta. It was a replacement for my undersized 8" Grizzly. HF isn't known for their stellar quality and I was a bit apprehensive about buying it, but DPs are a fairly simple device and I've heard several good reports from other HF DP owners. At this point I'm fairly impressed, and think I'd need to spend considerably...

  • Worksharp 3000

    Worksharp 3000

The only thing I dislike more than sanding is sharpening. This means I have a pile of dull chisels and planes that never work right when I need them. My chisels all have the factory edge on them and they tend to get abused. I chose the 3000 model over the 2000 model after reading all the glowing reviews of the 3000. I also watched a video review of the 2000 on lumberjocks.com. So, on with my first tool review... The box came via ups ground and was pretty dinged up. I opened the outer box and too...
