    Elevated planter

The top is solid Cypress with the outside finished in three coats of tung/varnish/solvent mix rubbed on, then three coats of marine urethane sprayed on. Inside it's got three coats of a PPG primer/sealant. The bottom of the box is made from pressure-treated lumber. The base is just generic steel tube, primed, then painted with a bronze/black hammer finish paint. Looks spectacular in the sun. It will be an herb garden at my friends' house.

The snow here was almost melted and it snowed again today ... and you're wearing shorts!

Sorry about my weather meltdown. The planter is beautiful and the Cyprus is stunning. I'm certain your friend will love it.

His wife is filling it as we speak. Mix of dirt and garden soil, we've heard is the best fill for herbs here. At our house, we did raised planters on the ground and just tilled in some garden soil and manure. They grow like weeds.

That’s a lot of dirt to fill the planter. It shouldn’t move around!

                Beautiful materials.
I see you have some kind of reinforcement in the corners.
I'd consider dado joints to ensure it can handle the weight.
                That's a lot of dirt.

I make boxes for our garden for my wife to plant her stuff. The size is about 20”x 36” x 16”, with no bottom. This size is intended to be used to sit on the ground and a wheat straw bale sit down in it. Straw bale gardening is an interesting concept of gardening. The funny thing about planting in these type boxes is when her lillies and bulb type plants swell the boxes and finally burst the corner joints! These boxes are made out of cheap dog ear 6x72 pine fence planks. 6 planks per box cost about $10 and last 2-3 years before they rot out.

Capn - I read this a few times, and figured out those dimensions were for the box, not your wife. The giveaway was the 16"

It's been a long day for this college administrator -------- I'd go have a drink, but all our bars have been closed by our fair gubner.
I'd go to church to correct this errant and fallen soul kind of thinking ---- but he closed the churches, too.

Maybe I'll just go downstairs and turn more pens. We're up to 60.

The 16 is her shoe size! Looks funny with no bottom too,.
