Shop made Rod Kirby BT3x miter fence holder

This is the Rod Kirby shop made version of the BT3 miter fence holder. Along with the miter fence ends.

I was thinking of making one of his fence holders just for fun. I think once I set up for one, it would be easy to knock out half a dozen or more. Anyone have any interest in one in memory of Rod, or need one for a replacement?

Don't make just "one" for me, but if others want one, I will be glad to buy one to have in memory of Rod Kirby! AND to be from you would make it more memorable! Thank you for the offer!!

LChien - I wouldn't toss out the offer except you are in Katy and are a superfan of these things. I have a BT3k sitting in my garage... it has never even been turned on . It lived in a box in my parents basement for almost 2 decades. I ended up pulling it out and partially setting it up... and it is somewhat redundant to what I already have, so it literally has never been turned on. I'm over in Pearland. If you want it, its yours if you shlep out here and drive it away.

I've tried to PM you but the forum won't let me for "reasons' (??)

Should I laser engrave "Rod Kirby" on the top of the Miter fence holder?

I think you should laser engrave something in it to honor the designer.

              I'd like to.put *Rod Kirby 19xx-2016*
but I don't know his birth year xx. Anyone know?

I've done Google searches and AI for Melbourne obituaries for Rod Kirby with Carole survoving wife and come up blank.

                Quite fitting.
It doesn’t seem like 10 years since he passed away.

I though this stylized font would look good, but the combination of thin and thick strokes weren't handled well by the laser engraver, the thin parts did not get dark enough to see while the thick strokes tended to burn and bloom. I had to pick a font with a more uniform stroke.

              Looks like this.
A little too large? I'm thinking a bit more subtle might be in better proportion.

Do you have a sanding mop? I use one on my Tiny Trees to clean up different character points that may have char if coloration that needs removing or lightning up.

i usually just sand it with 220 grit if it needs it - that seems to do an OK job.
            Working...
