about 130 on a motorcycle, just over 100 in a car.

I got my stock '69 GTO up to ~146 MPH. The speedo only went to 120, but a little calculation of tire diameter, 3:23 rear end and top engine RPM gave me the figure.

In Germany on the autobahn I pushed my Audi 80 (1.8L) up to 140 kpm (100 mph) going downhill, but was afraid to go any faster fearing the car would fall apart. My other car was a Plymouth minivan, and I never got it faster than 85 before the kids' screaming made me slow down.

A friend and I drove in his Lexus GL400 to a conference in Bavaria where we *averaged* 110 mph over a 3-hour trip...didn't feel any faster than 80...

Now that I have an accurate bicycyle speedometer, I'm ready to clock my speed up to 185 mph:

Whaddya know a fellow Goat owner. Howdee. I had a '64, but it was a mongrel. It had a '62 421 from a Grand Prix with tripps, and different rear end. It was pretty quick but I have no idea how fast it would go, as the gearing affected the speedo. It wasn't my fastest car, but it sure was a blast to drive.

117 MPH. I was on a business trip, Hertz gave me a Mustang and there was a whole lotta empty Texas interstate..... That was as fast as I dared though and it was only for a second or two before I slowed back down.

On the road, 105 when I was a stupid teenager.

In my younger days, I made a couple of trips at an average of around 90 - one in Montana and another between Atlanta and Gainesville.

In the air, I set and still hold a world speed record over a recognized course for airplanes weighing between 1750 and 3000 kg (3900-6720 pounds) between San Francisco and Seattle - 242.29 mph. Of course, I was the first and last person to try for that particular city pair

In college I had a 1976 Toyota Celica GT Liftback with a 20R block (stock 2.2L) bored and stroked to 2.6L, 22R cylinder head, TRD intake manifold with dual Weber 2bbl side draft carbs, TRD distributor / ignition. We built the trans / rear end using Yukon gear components everything beefed up by a transmission specialist neighbor of mine...

It sat on 235/50R15 Z rated Toyo rubber, and I believe the Z rating was brand new at the time, or at least the first time I had seen them...

The stock gauge cluster was swapped out with VDO speedo, tach, Volt, Oil Pressure, Temp, etc... gagues. The speedo went to 200mph, and was calibrated and certified in my old state.

I am not saying when or where (5th ammendment here) this occoured, but I had that car up to 165 mph before I chickened out. I had plenty of pedal left.

This was no stocker with the oe strangled 85 HP obviously...

96 Grand Prix 120 plus on German Autobahn between Mainz and Kaiserslautern before wifes nerves got to me. Still had some left too.

Prior to that, my Dad's "Family car", 1968 Oldsmobile Delta 88, 425 engine ( he wanted to make sure he had passing power). 100 mph drag racing in town.

In 1966 a new Corvette with a 427 CI engine and 308 rear end the speedo needle was buried between 0 and 160 MPH. Don't know how accurate it was and I was not driving. My most recent was in my 2000 Mazda Miata with a supercharger. Quit at 135 MPH, felt faster than the Vette and a whole lot more unsafe. Did it in the desert on two lane highway between Borrego Springs, Ca and Yuma, AZ. Won't do it again. Just wanted to see how the supercharger enhanced the performance. Totally different car than stock.

Both various cars and motorcycles at a minimum of 120 -- that's where the speedo's kept running out. I quit shortly after that, too!! That's also been a number of years ago, don't think I would do it now, at least not on two wheels (unless I had too).

no clue.... I had a 1980 RX-7 and red lined (7k rpm iirc) it in 5th gear. Speedo pegged at 80mph before I got out of 3rd.

Last week I took our Saturn Vue up to 100mph trying to recreate a drop in power that my wife claimed happened. She said I didn't go fast enough the first time. It's pretty dang quick for a SUV. had plenty of power left too.
