    Corner routing templates...

Okay I got stupid browsing Temu...

I was ordering something I needed, and they gave me a free pick of 4 things. One of those things I am NOT going to Temu link because Temu.... But these gizmos...

    https://amzn.to/47Xkbs4

I figured they would make easy work of the corners of the replacement countertops for my RV, you know to keep from mashing a hip into a pointy corner at 3:00 stumbling around to the toilet kinda stuff...

They take a countersunk screw to secure to the workpiece, and are supposed to basically let the bearing of your flush trim bit ride agaist it as you route away the corners...

I don't want to put extra holes in my workpieces even if it is just the underside...

Would carpet adhesive tape be strong enough to hold them securely while being able to cleanly remove after use?

Oh for anyone interested. I have settled on Red Oak plywood for the countertop. Corners rounded, edges bullnosed, then any gaps filled, sanded, and smoothed, then I will start on the cutout for the sink and the stove...

The workpiece is cut to size, my next step is the corners thus the question...

I would not rely on tape. One slip...

They have those with Built-in edge aligners lips but you only get two per unit

Easy to make if you just need one size.

If you want to buy something quick, Amazon has these sets for $12+ that have the edge built in.

I guess these I have shown are good for routing corners on a router table, but not good for routing counters already in place.

IN the late 90s it was either Norm in the New Yankee Workshop or Bob and son in the Router Workshop that used double sided tape to hold jigs on workpieces for bearing mounted edge routing. Both surfaces need to be clean and dust free and foam double sided carpet tape is the correct tape to use.
just another brick in the wall...

"Double sided tape": Initially I was very skeptical of double sided tape to hold wood blanks on a wood lathe. But after reading it and understanding the setup as Black Walnut just mentioned - it works well.: "Both surfaces need to be clean and dust free and foam double sided carpet tape is the correct tape to use." Two to three pound blocks of wood turning at 500 - 600 RPM hold firm. This is a common setup where screws and screw holes are not wanted.

There is a very thin and almost clear double sided and thread reinforced tape that is almost impossible to get off of plastic/metal. I personally stay away from that.

It depends on the tape, I'm sure. I use a 2" wide glass-fiber and stick-um tape without membrane or foam from Lowe's, and I wouldn't hesitate with that stuff. I don't see it on the website, though. You could test it by pushing on the pattern laterally. If it flexes at all, try something else.
I've routed all kinds of shapes from patterns I made from 1/4" ply on acrylic up to 1/2" thick when custom fitting marine electronics, and mistakes are expensive. Even more of a problem when creating holes in the helm console of brand-new yachts. In those days, I put 2" 3M original blue painter's tape on both surfaces, and hot-glued between them. That's really strong laterally, yet pries off without damage. The glue lets go of one tape surface or the other, or the tape lets go of the substrate, and the tape then peels off nicely.
Those Temu one's look like they would work well with a trim router. Are the thumb screws for the edge guides below the top surface of the guide plate? The important thing when using patterns is being careful when placing the router base on the pattern with the bit well away, and cutting away excess material with saws before attempting to cut the routing edge.
One thing to be watchful for is power cord management if using a corded router. If the cord snags as the tool is approaching the workpiece, it could rotate from vertical in your hand and gouge something. I always held a bit of slack in my free hand to be sure. That kind of work was in the days before battery-everything.

That is the tape I have problems with - but it is not the tape's fault. I constantly get it gobbed up and stuck on itself as well has have trouble getting it off. THAT is more me (and fumbling hands) than the tape.

We collaborated with professional woodworkers to ask about their needed specs, thickness, tackiness, width, and other special features that they're looking for in a woodworking tape. Through this collaboration, we recreated the ultimate double-sided tape for woodworking that's made by woodworkers for woodworkers. WHY CHOOSE THE XFASTEN WOODWORKING TAPE?
        • Optimal thickness enables the tape to be easily peeled off without damage or tearing when needed while maintaining its strength even on high-speed CNC machine routing.
        • Resists curling and tearing.
        • Stable, removable, and residue-free.
        PRODUCT DETAILS

        IDEAL FOR

The XFasten Woodworking Tape is specifically calibrated for woodworking activities such as splicing, machine cutting, routing, and anchoring.

        PRODUCT FEATURES

REMOVABLE: Features a high initial bonding strength without leaving any messy residue. It can permanently bond to surfaces but it's also easy to remove.

EASY TO MANAGE: The XFasten Woodworking Tape's cloth backing allows the tape to resist curling - making it easy to manage, adhere, and remove.

DESIGNED FOR FAST-PACED OPERATIONS: Do you deal with multiple boards to edge band and panel patterns and templates to cut? The XFasten Woodworking Tape is designed to be quickly peeled off, allowing for fast turnover rates. Perfect when you're dealing with heavy volume projects.

SURFACE SAFE: Stays stable and firm while routing, but comes off easily without ripping or chipping the fibers of wood, plywood, veneer, wood laminates, and MDF surface-finish.

        MATERIAL

        Adhesive Silicone Blend.

ID:	861922Looking at the pictures again, On these, are the black items removable edge guides that are moved and fastened for each corner? In that case if you use the edge guides you don't need to tape or screw them down. And the edge guides give better registration ensuring that you won't get a small step in the edge from misalignment.

Can’t tell, but it looks llike the black items hook onto a cleat on any of the 4 corners. I can’t see why a longer “black item” couldn’t be crafted or procured that would allow the template to be clamped to the workpiece on its flat surface.

So yes, the black bits are the edge guides. For my application the R20 is appropriate, although SLIGHTLY large the R15 is just too small...

The little thumbscrews adjust the edge guides in / out so you can insure flushness at the outer edges. I am trying to just keep the template from slipping once secured. I use the carpet tape with my plastic signmakers templates with no issues, just not sure about these since the are aluminum.

My method with the signmaker templates is wipe the worksurface and the backside of the template with isoporpyl alcohol to remove dust and any oils before applying the tape. Guessing that should remain the same. Just wanting to be safe without making extra holes in this thin countertop....

I assume R20 means radius 20 mm (close to 3/4") making the diameter about 1.5"
Much of that Temu woodworking stuff is metric dimensioned and marked scales.

LCHIEN yes, radius in MM so R20 is a radius of 20mm. So ~3/4" which is what I am looking for. Not huge, just not pointy.
