    band saw gloat

well, earlier i was asking about the g0513 band saw. he listed it for $500. i went yesterday and picked it up. it came with several different widths of blade. the machine is 3.5yr old, looked like it hadnt been used much at all. the brushes didnt show any signs of wear on it. the rubber on the wheels were clean. all the adjustment and knobs seem to work (at least they turned and things moved). it is missing the throat plates and the sliding miter gauge.

i have to clean it up, the bearings had dust on it. the fence needs to be adjusted. i need to order some throat plates and get a sliding miter gauge at some time and need to figure out a mobile base for it.

i couldnt offer less than $400 (i suck when it comes to haggling, my wife told me to start at $350), and he took it pretty much without hesitation. i guess i could have offered less. i think this could count as a gloat.

    here are some pics:

I prefer to pay a fair price instead of haggling also and you got it for a better than fair price. I use the heavy duty Shopfox base for my bandsaw and it works well.

Wow, that's a heck of a deal! Awesome band saw! I got a Ryobi 9" saw for $ 25 a couple weeks ago, and I thought that was a good deal - but your BS is a real machine!

Boy, that is sweet! Just the fence assembly, if bought as a Kreg add-on, would be about $100.

Agreed. I am always looking out for a bargain but I also don't screw over nice people. If the guy acts like a jerk I will take him to the cleaners though given the chance.

You did good, more important, you did the right thing. I don't find a miter gauge very useful on a band saw but do occasionally steal one off of one of the other tools. You can create a shop made version pretty easily.
                        Congratulations,

$400 used for several good 14" BS's is a good deal, Omar. $400 for a 17" in that condition and no freight extra is close to an exceptional deal. I wouldn't worry about the miter as Ward mentioned as I find little use for one. And as mentioned.. just use the one from the TS and get good blades.

And if you don't have one of the books on BS's from Duginske or Bird.. get one as a BS is a very flexible machine but probably the most finicky in the shop.

                            Great deal....
