jet sells a 14" canister upgrade kit.
This one, I think, for their 650 CFM DCs.
Better check if it fits, though.
20" is the size of the bigger 1.5 to 2 HP DC rings, I think 14" is the std. for the 1 HP 2-bag systems.

(I need to build a bellypan and get a shark guard.)
Yup, the pan and some sort of guard pickup is needed. I modified the stock guard which works better than nothing, but not perfect. I put in a full pan and that gets 100% of the stuff that drops.

Oh, FWIW, I use the old 30mil cloth bag over the plastic bag. It's just a belts and suspenders thing to protect the plastic.

I should have mentioned that the bags were the ones that came with the Jet cannister I bought used (I assume they originally came with the unit) ....which we've already determined is bigger than the HF ring (e.g. bolts too short). I guess I'd rather have them a little over-sized than too small though.

Well my specific model is a 1.5 HP 1200 CFM collector. It's the Jet DC-1200FS. But it hs a 14" ring...

Do you think it'd be possible to make a shop-made converter for 14"-20"? Or should I just go with the Jet canister and/ or a 2.5 micron bag? I bought the DC for $120, so cost-wise I'm not sure if I'm getting the best return on my investment. (but if the canister is worth it, I'm game)...

looks like an older unit, smaller impellor, pretty optimistic for 1200 CFM rating but it does have a 14" diam filter ring.
Call jet and ask if the DC650 canister retro fit will fit your old DC1200FS.
