Ryobi 12in Drill Press - Clearance (Discontinued)

Not much of a bargain yet, but once they're gone... There doesn't appear to be a replacement in this size from Ryobi/Home Dept, looks like they'll only be carrying the 10in model.

Picked one up tonight for $152 (regularly $179 here). This benchtop model has the 3+ inch spindle travel. My HF 8inch DP continues to run strong 10+ years later, but it only has a 2inch spindle travel.

The bench tops are a handy DP. Price sounds good for one with a 3" travel.

lists for $179 w/free shipping on the HD website.
3+ inch stroke is good for a 12" unit (but this in not listed in the on-line spec, I'm taking your word for it)
      12 speeds (500-3000RPM), 5A motor (= 600W ~1/2-3/4 HP?).
      Loring in Katy, TX USA

I've had my eye on this one for awhile. Now I don't know if I should snag one now, or wait to see if they go down more...

        Thanks for the heads up.

buy it now and if the price falls in the next 90 days, return it and rebuy the same unit for the lower price.
there's a solution to every problem.......you just have to be willing to find it.

Here it is, with my HF table attached. Had to modify the table because the DP's round table was larger than allowed for the bolt placement.

New horizons for me to explore: 12.5in from chuck to lowest table setting (my little HF DP only allowed 7in.). And with the 3in spindle/quill travel, I should now be able to drill my pen blanks without having to do it in two steps (formerly having only 2in, I had to stop, raise the table, and finish.)

That's a nice looking drill press. That extra capacity is just what you needed. How do you like the HF table?

Thanks Mike. Its substantially larger overall as well. My HF was 22in base to cover, the Ryobi is 35in. The HF table is good for my hobby use, probably not up to production requirements, but decent for the 20 bucks paid.

This should be a real time-saver for you. I'm in the same you were at -- just 2" quill travel. I'm very tempted by the idea of a 3" plunge

Awesome. I just came here to ask about the overall distance from table to chuck, and you answered it already. That has been my only real complaint about my current Craftsman 8" DP. I have the same HF table. I think someone is telling me to go buy this DP...

                        Thanks!

Darn! I just bought the 10" a month ago (can't find the receipt at the moment), but at least they accepted a HF 20% off coupon when I bought it.

There's a new 12" DP sitting in the trunk of my car ... new toys to play with when I get home from work tonight

No price reduction for clearance, but with a HF 20% discount coupon, total was $152.15 including tax.

Thanks for the heads-up on this one!

Congrats on your acquisition. "Requires some assembly", and use the instructions in the book, not the quick sheet. And make sure you put the bar with the gear teeth on it so the unthreaded section is at the TOP or the table won't lower all the way and you'll have to disassemble to correct - and that head assembly is not light (DAMHIKT).

Also - don't pull your hair out looking for the 15w candelabra-base bulb. Buried in the book in fine print, is says "Bulb not included".

                              Hope it serves you well.
