herc-u-lift $14.70 @borg

Oh, and they weren't marked on clearance, and were actually behind the big boxes for other power tools like the rigid table saw and another item. I spotted 1 small box behind them and had to sneak around the rack to get each item.

Using Herculift on BT3100

I assembled one a couple weeks ago and am using it on my BT3100. I had hoped to avoid removing the front leg support but was unable to do so.

Just follow the directions. IIRC, the dimensions are from the universal base page, 28"x28". It is wise to copy the pages you need from the back of the manual so you don't have to keep flipping back and forth.

It behooves you to drill the holes in the legs at the right height.

I would install it without having the saw mounted on the legs.

I read a post on WoodNet where a guy said that he installed his first one in 1 1/2 hours. I find that very hard to believe, unless he is very mechanically adept and can visualize well. It took me 4+ hours, including time spent adjusting it.

Buddyroo, thanks for the tip about taking the stand off first, would have been a nightmare with the saw in place.

Installation took me about 4 1/2 hours over two days including adjustments.

I can't believe I got in on this deal after a week of seeing post about people getting these at $14.70 by two's and three's. I finnally found an excuse to go to the Borg( closest is 40 miles, but it was on the way coming back from Memphis).

So I go in not expecting much, but hoping to score one. Looked up and down the tool section three times and never saw it. Then I saw a Rigid saw and it clicked in my head not to look for Herculift, but for a Rigid box. So I take another look up and down checking the racks too and nothing. So I start to leave and notice some mobile miter saw stands off away from the tool section, then upon closer inspection notice a Rigid table saw box on a shelf near them. Behind that I found three of them. No price mark anywhere. So I lug one to the nearest register to get a price check...Cha Ching..$14.70 I promptly told the cashier to hold that one while I go get another.

So I got two and left one for anyone looking that may be in the Jackson, TN area. If anyone needs one I'm sure it will be there until someone finds a compitant Drone to find it for them (ha,ha,ha). I have never had a good experience with the Drones at this store, so I make an effort to avoid them, even though they seem to make an effort to avoid me also. Works out well for all involved.

Now I need to figure out how to convince LOML that this was not a "Tool purchase", since I have already gone over budget on tools by getting the new rollaway.

Herc-U-Lift

I picked up a Herc-U-Lift at Home Depot (Lancaster, SC) for $14.70. It looked like their regular selling price.

Then I assembled it! Apparently it's made to fit anything with enough effort and nothing without a lot of effort. Some observations:

1. Take the saw off the stand first. It would be nearly impossible to install the Herc-U-Lift with the saw in place. (Already mentioned here.)

2. Pick up some extra 1/4-inch (about a dozen) washers. Mine apparently had the full complement but was still short. Also pick up some 1/4-inch fender washers (4) to attach the lift tubes to the leg brackets.

3. On the BT3100, drill the holes in the legs (page 11) at the 3 1/2 inch height, rather than at 3 1/8 inches. (If you don't feel comfortable with the floor clearance after it's installed, you can always lower the casters by adding a washer or two. You can also increase the clearance by adding washers between the tubes on the assembly and the brackets on the legs.) I used cardboard to cut a pattern for drilling the legs so I'd have to make the measurements only once rather than 8 times.

4. At the end of assembly, I had the frontmost tubes inserted to the "A" marks and the rearmost tubes inserted to the "B" marks. Be sure the front bracket assembly is assembled wide enough at its rear end to clear the rear bracket assembly (the one with the release assembly).

5. You'll likely want to use the spring (or a bungee cord) to raise the front bracket (and the rear bracket, which is supported on top of the rear bracket). Rather than drill another hole in the BT3100 stand, a 3/8 x 1 1/2-inch strip of wood can be inserted between the saw and the stand to hold the top of the spring or bungee.

6. The whole Herc-U-Lift assembly feels sloppy to me. Maybe that's just a feeling after assembling the BT3100. It's designed to fit Ridgid and Craftsman tools, so maybe those folks are a little less nitpicky than Ryobi owners. ;-)

One other item, this one concerning the BT3100. Couldn't Ryobi have included an elbow and a sawdust bag with the BT3100? I used a 2-inch 90-degree PVC elbow (male and female ends), attached with a 2-inch rubber flex coupling and am hoping my Craftsman dust bag from a leaf blower fits.

OK, it is Wed night and i just picked one up in Baltimore. The two folks in the tool corral didn't have a clue to what it was, plus it wasn't in the system, but it had a sticker on the box that said $14.70. there is one left there.

Hey Louis, was the box down under the tool displays? Did it say Hercu-Lift on it? I only called and gave the sku and was told that it was no longer carried. Your post gives me hope!
