Seriously, what is it with that store being so far ahead of the curve on discounts compared to other stores?

I stopped into my local store (Elmira, NY area) and they didn't have a single floor drill press. No display, nothing! I asked one of the "aprons" and he just pointed at the bench-top (Delta, I think). I'm not in the market (have a Ridgid), but I was curious as to what $125 might get you.

I forgot to add that they did price match the $129 it was not the regular price of $199.00 The manager was not real happy about it but he took a look at my list of stores and said ok. I just put it togeather and so far love at first sight. I have a Hitachi sawzall and I can only hope this press puts up with half the abuse the sawzall takes lol. In the words of Dr.Evil The "LAZER" is very cool.

Even my 20-year-old "benchtop" (100+ pounds) has a worklight. I'd be rather annoyed if I ended up without one, never would have thought to look.

The Hitachi has the work light under the motor housing, very clever design.

                Joe,

I just wanted to add my thanks as well. I went to my Lowes (Middletown, PA.) and they had one left. Found a kid there for help, showed him the picture of the clearance tag you gave, and he called the Plymouth Meeting store and confirmed. But then he called his manager, told him about the price match, and said the other store had it as out of stock and clearance but their store didn't have it as clearance. He got off the phone and said sorry, I can only give you 10% off since we still stock it. I asked him (politely) if I could see the manager. I spoke to the manager and was just asking for a clarification of their price match policy. He started describing how the difference was that it was not an 'out of stock' item for them which was unusual since they are really the same region, etc., but then the kid says "oh, the computer DOES say it's 'out of stock' for us". The manager rolled his eyes, and they both apologized for the confusion. I told them I didn't mind at all I was just happy to get it for the $129.

On a separate note, as I was doing searches on this model, I came across some entries from another forum back around August '05. I had to laugh because they were saying how they noticed it had just been reduced to $229, and that at THAT price it was worth going for. It included a review of the model by someone who was happy with it at the $269 that he paid for it.

Thanks again for the tip, I've been waiting for a DP for awhile now.

                Jim K.

I mentioned that I got the last one in my earlier post, but I didn't have them check inventory, and the floor model was still there and looked to be in good shape if anyone is nearby and interested.

I was able to get one in Houston. It rang up $199, but I told them about the $129 clearance price from other stores as posted on this forum, and showed them a printout of the clearance tag. The manager gave me the discount and jokingly said the picture looked suspiciously fuzzy (with a wink), and we all got a good laugh. It looks like an excellent drill press.

Thanks 'Tequila' for the heads-up, and for posting the tag.

                    Tom

Glad to see that a few people got in on this deal. I figure that with all the money this board has "saved" me so far, it's only fair to give back.

This is Saturday. I just picked up one of these drill presses at my local Lowes here in Baltimore after i realized that I have to drill my BT3100 table with a 3/4 inch hole in order to fit my Hitachi router/Raizer attachment to the router table! After showing them the image from the above post (the $129.00), this is what they dropped the price to even though they had it listed for $199.00. I don't know how it works yet since it is still in the box, but i can tell you it is heavy-as-**** and barely fits into the back of a Honda Accord!

                        cheers

I can tell you that it works great.
I was drilling through 3/4 inch galvanized steel tonight like it was butter.
I do need to adjust the laser since it is not accurate.
                          Enjoy the drill press.

You said Middletown, PA...is that the same as Middletown Township? I use to live in Forsythia Gate and was just wondering.

Lowes out here didn't budge on the price...
                            Thanks,

Yep, that's the same Middletown. They refer to the store as the Middletown location, although I'm thinking that is actually Langhorne, PA? Not too far from good old Forsythia Gate...
