i hope everyone is safe. i've barely been online or listen to the news for the last 1.5 week, so didnt know where it was coming, other than heard at work that another storm was on its way. these storms do stir up a lot of trouble. i just hope everyone is safe.

I hope the best for your place, DB.
That is a very bad feeling to have. It is still very fresh in my mind from Ivan.
I hope your place fared at least as well as ours after Ivan.
I could not even rest while I had that looming question on my mind.

The whole way back down to the house, we saw destruction and chaos everywhere. We were stunned when our place was nearly as we had left it. Lots of debris, but none from our place.
When you get to go back home, carry gas and water with you. You may not find those things available for miles. Easily prepared food items, first aid kits etc are all good things to get now before you go home.
Good luck and thoughts are with all you guys.
      Lee

Best of luck to you all. One of my friend's daughter lives in the Houston area and we are still waiting to hear how she rode it out.

I will add You to My prayer list, I can't imagine the devastation the impact a storm would have on the inner man.

Sorry to hear that. That's a lot to deal with. Hopefully everything is OK, but keep us up to date on it.

Well I just got power back. I only lost a couple of shingles and some fence. dbhost PM me your address and I'll go have a look.

As a note having driven aroud a lot I'm betting your house is ok. I drove through Bacliff and except for some downed power lines they were ok.

I had a good friend of mine stop by the house and check it out. I have no fence (for those with long memories, I lost the same fence in March a week after I installed it due to a small tornado)... I am leavin it down. To heck with the HOA!

Seriously though. No. The back of my fence is reported gone, the gate and sides are mostly intact. I have been told I have some vinyl siding in my hard from someone else's house. But otherwise, I am good. Presence of power is questionable...

I am unable to return home due to insufficient gasoline supplies. I was in line for 1.5 hours with my wife today, who needs not to be stressed, overheated, or whatnot right now... in a gas line, and by the time we got almost into the lot of the station, they lost power again and were unable to dispense fuel...

I am so grateful for our friends, and family, that have helped out during this difficult time.

I am unable to work remotely because, well, I am one of the sysadmins, the few guys that are able to get home, are running Diesel. I haven't seriously considered paying the extra premium for diesel fuel, but after Hurricane Rita, and now Ike. I am either trading my truck in for an oil burner, or I am going to move away from the coast, possibly finally take my family to San Antonio like we have been wanting to do...

That's exactly the way I felt after Ivan, Katrina, Dennis and a couple of others whose names I forget. We get hurricanes here but nothing like on the Gulf. Good luck and hope you get back home fairly soon.

my car is still a Geo Bush airport (IAH), I haven't been home yet. I wonder what shape it's in... did the eye pass over Geo Bush IAH or a little more east, I think. I guess the airports reopened Monday with little fanfare.., no major repairs needed.

That's good news about not losing the house. I'm sure there will be other hardships you'll have to endure, but at least you didn't lose the house.

We're very lucky, our house & fence had no damage, our power stayed on except for a few flickers (we were out for a total of 3 minutes). The problem is that all the grocery stores around us had no power so we're having trouble finding any meat or frozen food as they all tossed it out. I got gas in both cars before the storm, so gas is okay until the weekend, then it ought to be fun, but hopefully the gas stations around us will be back to somewhat normal.

I've been letting my co-workers come over to take hot showers, use our stove and do some laundry. I've been giving the ice from my ice maker to friends, it's not much because it takes so long to make it, but it helps them out.

I can't beging to fathom what the people in the hardest hit areas are dealing with and I hope and pray that they get the things they need NOW!

This stirs up (no pun intended) memories of our first storm of several in '04 (Charlie, I think). When our power went out for a couple days, I was the only guy in the neighborhood with a generator, and enough gas to keep it running. I ran a cord out the front door, and set a coffeemaker and small microwave up on the front porch, so the neighbors could come and get coffee and heat up some food. I was BMOC while the power was out, and I came to realize just how much some people need their coffee. They were absolute fiends, and I could have easily gotten $20 a cup...

It's a sobering thought that our civilized, modern lives are that close to being pushed back to before the Industrial Revolution.
