Well I would have to say my title is free-lance geek. Or geek for hire.

Worked on Full Power Plant Simultors out of HS, Apache/Black Hawk/Cobra Helo simumation, Train power control system, sewer plant control system(ewww), and the sold out to work in the Financial computing side.

Now I write black currency trading software.

Oh I also do the tech side of the web site for come rocker scientists.

Lastly, I do all of this to try to get wealthy so I too can have a barn with a 1/20 of the wood David Marks uses on DIY.

Another software engineer. Twelve years at my previous job developing precision GPS guidance for crop dusters and ground spray rigs.

I'm now working at a company that makes automobile diagnostic equipment; the stuff that tells the mechanic what the "check engine" light really means...

I'm a semi-retired technical illustrator/writer. My initial nine years was spent as a subcontractor, mostly doing illustrated parts catalogs for IBM and others. In 1973 I went to work for a leading compressor manufacturer and during that time also did a lot of freelance work for other companies in my region. In addition to illustrating and writing, I've done photography, digital retouching, graphic design, desktop publishing, database design, and have taught a variety of computer and software subjects, as well as Total Quality Management.

Almost everything I know I learned on my own and by paying attention to others. With no degree or night classes, I'm an avid reader. My forte' was being able to take information from people much smarter than I and then write and illustrate the subject in a manner that my peers could understand.

High school Teacher in wood shop/building & construction taught;
Residential carpentry in wood & Light guage steel framing, custom hardwood furniture making, basic mechanical drawing & architectual drafting, basic electricity, Career Techinical Ed. Coordinator (RFP/grant writing/budget coordinator) for the school's CTE programs which included all industrial shop classes, agriculture, food service, business dept., Special Ed. workplace readiness program and Vocational counseling/testing programs.
Taught for 25 + years retired 2003
Started a new career as a remodeling/cabinet making business. Work 4 days @ 6hrs a day, Thursday is golf day/19th hole.

Hats off to Mrs. Wallnut (Family & Home CEO/CFO) TOUGHEST & MOST IMPORTANT JOB!

It's interesting to note that at about the same time this thread was started here, a similar thread was started on www.runryder.com , the R/C helicopter formum. There, as here, the members mostly come from "technical" backrounds.

new here. Wedding photographer now and love it. Did commercial photography for a lot of years. Loved the work hated waiting to be paid. Had a great shop at the old studio years ago. New house and a treehouse have ignited the wood craze in me again...

I'm a teacher (some of my students might grow up to be rocket scientists) starting my fourth year. I taught stagecraft and this year I'll be teaching acting.

I think NASA cut down on their Actor quota once they stopped staging fake moon landings!

That said, I've seen lots of data which shows strong correlation between the fine arts and other academic achievment so you just may have a rocet scientist there.

Well, I'm a research scientist (optoelectronic crystal growth) with a rocketry hobby. Is that close? No?

What company do you work for? 3M? I'd LOVE to do R&D, but I would have to go finish my degree , and most likely get my Master's as well. (Materials Science with Chemistry and Astro Physics minors). Right now, I'm a trainer in the claims dept of a national pharmacutical benefits management company.

Well, I'm a Johnny come lately to this thread. I have several jobs at this point. My main gig is as a graphics programmer in the video game industry. I am right now also working a contract with a medical imaging company to write some 3D stuff for them.

I also teach martial arts, I've been known to do videography for training DVDs, and I get to teach woodworking from time to time at the local Rockler.

Worked for 7 years in the employ of EDS. A good gig for 6 years: I led the team that built the first automated hunting/fishing licensing system in North Carolina (second of its kind in the USA). The 7th year, I labored as a Problem Management team leader on a contract for the US Postal Service. I saw the writing on the wall ($1.5 billion loss for USPS in 2001) and took a teaching job with the local community college.

Five years later, I'm chair of the Business Technologies department and I supervise nine of the craziest and best people on earth. I'll never regret my move to the teaching profession.

That said, moms have the best and hardest job of all!

I am retired due to an accident in 1995, before that I had a Vending and Amusement company that operated in 4 States, MO, MS, AR, and TX. I had 3 Military contracts, and several Chains of Stores of different types, and a whole bunch of independent stores.

Before that I was a Snap-OnTool Dealer, I think going back to the Seventies is far enough back. Bill
