how to cut double stick tape

I've been using the XFasten woodworkers double stick tape. IT has some redeeming features.

This one comes with a liner and adhesive layer and the second side is stuck to the next layer liner while on the roll.
That means that if you peel off a length to cut it with scissors, there is a an exposed sticky side on the bottom.
The sticky is a bit thicker than normal tape maybe 0.020 (my guess) but its very fibrous and that holds it together making one piece removal easy but cutting it difficult. Very aggressive adhesive for templates and hanging signs, but it comes off cleanly in one piece.

The quality scissors I have tried all cut about 1/2 into it OK but after that the sticky sticks aggressively to both blades making a really difficult cut. I have heard it recommended use a box cutter but that seems awkward to me because cutting on the roll would cut the next layer and cutting on the workpiece is just a mess to get off and damages the workpiece with the blade.

I posed this question to AI tool as a double sided tape cutting problem and it suggested using what are available as coated scissors with flourine or with teflon to cut adhesive materials and make cleanup and grabbing less of an issue. They also recommended using WD40 on the blade to reduce sticking. I worry about WD40 affecting the stickiness.

I tried a flourine coated scissors from Amazon and it still stuck like no tomorrow. Probably going back.

I asked AI specifically about XFasten tapes and it apparently knew exactly what I was talking about.
It said because the fibrous and thicker adhesive I wanted serrated blades and recommended a Wiss 11inch shears with micro serrations.

Wasnt' cheap, but I tried them and it does cut the Xfasten tape cleanly without grabbing to the adhesive on either blade. AI sometimes gives great advice when you spell out the exact problem.
Tractor Supply was $7-8 cheaper than any of the hardware box stores and Amazon.

Should have had these the other day. I 'm always buying solutions to the problem I had yesterday. So I won't have them in the future.
These are some good heavy duty cutters as well. So I'm sure I'll use them. And I still have lots of tape left.

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.

Thanks for the info And for the experiments! BTW, My Tractor Supply has them at $19.99; Surprisingly, my Amazon page doesn't have them listed except to buy from an affiliate store - and then at +$30.00

I know Amazon stock changes from time to time; and something I learned a long time ago: If I order something while east of the MS river, it comes from a different location than if I order something for my daughter in Springfield MS or the other daughter in Dallas TX. The delivery times are different for me than for them - also and I am a PRIME member. I got into a discussion with an Amazon staff person a few years ago and was told that things are sometimes listed as in Amazon stock OR individual "Affiliate" store stock ( and Different pricing) based on the geographic location specific to the buyer. That is probably why you see them as Amazon and I see them at a higher price from an "affiliate store" on Amazon.

I need to get me a set of these - Probably at the Tractor Supply close by. THANK YOU and I will check out the DS tape you use!

99% of the time, when I'm using that stuff it is to hold a workpiece to a template for routing. I stick the tape to the template where I need it and cut it off with a packing knife. It scratches the face of the template but that doesn't matter.

The other 1% I fight with it, tear it, cut it with scissors or a knife, have even tried biting through it, and generally just end up with a mess of ragged stretched out and stuck together bits ... proving brute force is rarely the solution.

Thanks for the info. Allex Scissors has some weird and wonderful scissors in an Amazon search.
