I picked up an Enlon Sander (same one Norm has in his shop) at an auction for $80. It is in mint condition. http://www.newyankee.com/nwall_small2.shtml

I bought a Sears Craftsman 6 1/8 inch jointer off woodnet forums. It is a 1960's model and extremely heavy, it was located outside of Paris,TN and I have a Nephew that works for the Corp of Engineers in Nashville. He picked it up and delivered it to me, with an extra motor for $100.00, The Guy wouldn't let Me pay Him until I saw the Jointer, I then mailed Him a check. I have been very happy with it. Stop this thread!
ChrisD, i am sure you started this thread with all good intentions, but it is not helping me at all : ie, nothing but giving me lotsa heart burn.
Ok, I've got nothing to say to those of you who seem to have been born in luck : benevolent old ladies, inherited treasures, easy handouts, grandsons just giving away stuff or generous employers (that's some gift, Otter). I'd be happy if my neighbor was as lucky (that's the closest i'd hope to get to happy luck)!
But the others - how do you get those deals?
>>Delta 34-183 Tenoning jig for $8.00
>>Porter Cable PIN Nailer FAR (i assume that is 'free after rebate'?)
>>Porter Cable Crown Stapler FAR
>>5hp 80g speedaire 2-stage compressor, nearly new condition $75
and many more for me to quote here. How do you?
In my one year in WW, I think I have spent close to $2K (including the wood and the screws and nails), and have not been able to get any great deals other than the x % off at HD, or when Brian (Holbren) is feeling good. And I have yet to buy a nailer / compressor / dovetail jig / biscuit joiner / etc, etc, etc.
I have decided : I think I'll just wait till some of those fall into my lap free...It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

I know! I'm beginning to regret it
. After seeing Otter's post, I started updating my resume to send to his company. Then I saw Shadowfox's post. Looks like there is a career to be made in bargain watching. If neither of these options works out, maybe I can get an entrepreneural apprenticeship with Thom. Thom, I'll even haul that 16" jointer for ya! BTW, does that have anything to do with the monster gloat that's coming this weekend?

There used to be an outfit called KT Traders that sold Amazon returns on eBay, and I got a new Jet 14" band saw and a new Jet 36" lathe for about $250 each. The boxes were damaged, but that was about it. My advantage was, I didn't have to pay shipping b/c they were located in Denver and I could just go pick them up at their warehouse. OH! I got an old Craftsman table saw off of Craig's list for $35 a couple of months ago, too.Comment

Craftsman ZIP Code 22124 - $399
Jet Contractor Saw - $150 (sold with built in RT for $600 to pay for above)
Hitachi BS - $125
Bessey K-Bods - $60 for 40" Door Kit (2) 24's and (2) 40's plus blocks. I have around 25 Bessey clamps and I paid very little for them as I parted out kits on ebay to cover my cost.
Needless to say there were a lot of deals during the "$75 off $300" Amazon code that applied to anything over $75 instead of $300. Ie, $80 item - $75 code = $5 net. I am ashamed to say that I abused that one pretty bad.
I'd love to catch some great deals on a few bid stacks of lumber. Anyone on BT3 thought about forming a buying group?Comment

I already went to confession for that.
Let's do it!! I am in!!

One of my better scores was the crank neck chisels that I posted in "Around the Coffee Pot", that 50+ members viewed and nobody replied to. I got them cheap but don't remember exactly what I paid, but didn't realize their true worth until I did a search on them.

Not sure, but probably the best I've done was my AP1300 planer for 145$.
I've done pretty well, overall, but not in comparison to some here. Mostly I decide I need a tool and sit and wait for a reasonably good deal. I would think if you don't NEED a tool, and can just wait around looking, you can find some great offers.
My Euro bandsaw 380$, Makita LS1013 350$, pretty good deals.Keith Z. Leonard

Best Deal - Nearly new Ridgid 14" Bandsaw with a bad motor. The motor capacitor turned up bad and I replaced it with one from another motor I had. Although, this now cost me much more than $0, with the blades, Carter tension release and Grizzly extension. But for $250, I have a 12" capable saw with a nice variety of blade and quick detension.
Next one - Bosch Colt router for $82.07 - $80 coupon from Amazon for $2.07, free shipping.
Hitachi M12V 3-1/4 HP Plunge Router - $149.99 - $80 from Amazon for $69.99
Ridgid Planer and Ridgid Jointer + 20% coupon and computer pricing errors for just under $400. I asked them if they rang up both the Jointer and Planer. They said that they did and that is what it rang up. So I asked again. They were sure it was right. Turns out the Jointer cast iron was cracked in two, when I got home. So it took a trip back to the store to get another one, but still one heck of a deal.
I would also count my drill press as a good deal, but it is just a floor standing Harbor Freight DP, on sale, plus 20% off type of deal. And the HF dust collector with Cartridge conversion also goes into the rank of great deal.Joe SacherComment
