When I had only the tension knob to use for de-tensioning -- I continually forgot. (Reasoning that I would just be using it again shortly -- then completely forgot to de-tension at the end of the day).
The ~$25 addition of the Grizzly G0555 parts for a tension release arm took care of that (originally purchased the parts to install on the Hitachi -- now installed on the Jet). Now I just flip the lever up when I'm done cutting, flip it down again when I need to use the saw... simple -n- painless.Comment

I detension as soon as the wheels stop spinning after a cut. I figured it's easier to get in the habit to tension, use the saw, detension than it is to try and remember to detension at the end of the shop time. I also probably wouldn't be as diligent if I didn't have a QR lever.Comment

I always detension, because of my infrequent use.
I leave a 1" square blue piece of magnetic sheet on the blade guard when detensioned - have to remove it (and tension) to use the saw - can't forgetDownunder ... 1" = 25.4mmComment

I tend to forget it often, I really need to get the Carter QR tensioner for my HF 14" BS.John HunterComment

I detension mine. I don't use my band saw every time in the shop, and shop time has become precious.Keith Z. Leonard

Since I have a QR lever on my Delta, I release the tension. I intalled a simple contraption that prevents me from starting the saw when the blade is not under tension.
On the left side of the saw I attached a seesaw. When the lever is to the left (tension released) it pushes the back of the seesaw down. The front part consequently goes up and covers the switch.Jean-LucComment
