    Minimalist panel saw idea

    Saw this on the internet
uses few parts. Might go on an outside wall if you have limited space. One caution I see: You need a sawboard stiff enough to not deflect under the weight of the circular saw. Always makes horizontal cuts, its wide enough to slide the verticals to turn the panel either way.

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.

Interesting, but for the amount of sheet goods breakdown I do, I think I'll stick to 2x4s on the floor with my clamp on straight edge.

Horizontal cuts on a panel saw will lead to the saw being pinched at or near the end of the cut when the weight of the top piece can no longer be supported by what is left uncut. The clamps may solve that problem most of the time, but the one time they don't hold won't be fun.

I'm a big fan of a saw board, and now a track saw on a piece of pink foam on the floor or a bench. Safe cheap, portable, the foam weighs almost nothing, and would take up less space than a panel saw.

Well, its not heavy duty but its probably better for a few panels than laying some 2x4s on the ground.
Its a kind of in between compromise.

It is a compromise! Only a newbie woodworker would have the vacant wall space for a panel saw. My son built and installed a nice panel saw in his shop, and it has turned into nice vertical storage for his flat goods!
