Tomorrow, I hope. Had to have the boss in San Antonio at noon the last 2 days so my day was shot. Work today. I will get an early start in the AM to get the old roof off (roll roofing) before it gets too hot. The trusses and sheathing should go fairly quick.

As is the norm, everything took longer than planned. I got the trusses up and started to sheth them with what I salvaged from the old roof. I decided not to use the siding I bought and instead buy more sheatheing. Turned out to be cheaper to buy all 7/16 OSB than enough 3/8 sheathing to finish the job.

The roof is covered in 30# felt and I got one gable closed in today. The other gable should go quicker tomorrow. Hopefully I will get the facia and metal roof on before the day is done. Then Sunday I can start working on brackets and shelving on the inside.

I also have the metal cut to rough lengths to repair the awning frame. Just need the time to break out the welder and glue it together.

          Allright, headroom!

If it's been as hot down there as it has been here you're going to want to do the brackets early in the AM or after the sun goes down. Anytime I stand on a stool to get up in the top of mine I feel like I've been transported to an Arizona desert.

I lived in Tucson for 5 years, trust me, I don't care what the thermometer says, it's hotter in Texas!

It is the big increase in humidity that is causing excess perspiration here in the metroplex.

I work outside in the heat every day so it doesn't bother me as much as some. I will need to vent the top but I don't want to run a ridge vent, maybe a louver at the top of the gable.

On each end. Just make sure you have a heavy wire screen behind it with weave less than 1/4" to keep pests at bay...

Very nice work BTW... Looking forward to seeing this completed...

I used to work outside, then I moved to Texas, and said a few obscene things about the humidity combined with heat and got into college so I could work inside where it is air conditioned. Not crazy about the job, but it does beat sweating a lot and coming home filthy every night...

                      Hey Pappy,

It's been a bit. How is the shop project coming along? After the roof, did you get everything back in the way you want it?

Had some other stuff get in the way. 'Boss' has been having trouble with her back and is down most of the time. Getting close enough that I should be able to get to some welding on the frame work repairs by Sunday.

I'll try to get some pics up then.

What FeHat sez! Let Mrs. Pappy know that my thoughts are with her--one bad back sufferer to another!

The new roof looks good. Mine is similar, but bigger.... I'm thinking of putting a cupola on the top with a big a$$ fan for ventilation. I have a ridge vent, two doors and two small windows, but there's a significant "dead spot" for ventilation. I'm thinking I'll suck in air through the doors and windows and blow it out the cupola.

In the morning I'm getting the lumber and flooring for my second floor!

Just realized what you were talking about... Know the feeling for sure. Tell your boss she has our prayers coming her way! I know all about having a bum back as well (car wreck in 2000, carload of "undocumented workers" decided to rear end my brand new pickup truck at 70 MPH).

Pappy, the roof looks very good. My smaller shed has the same style roof. I haven't figured out how to use the space up there though.
