    Barn door for bathroom

We've been in this house 33 years. In that time there have been a number of updates and remodels. In one of the upstairs bathrooms there was a pocket door to begin with... Overtime and due to a couple of kids growing up it got to a point where it wouldn't stay on track. Since it opened only to a couple of sinks, once the kids were gone I replaced the pocket door with "saloon" doors.

In the last couple of years SWMBO has watched a zillion "fixer upper" shows on TV and decided she needed the dated saloon doors replaced with the currently popular sliding barn door.

I managed to ignore this notion for a couple of years thinking the fad would pass... Silly boy! So for her birthday this year (August) I promised to build and hang said barn door.

I was/am shocked at the cost of the requisite hardware but once committed...

This is the outside of the door after first coat of Danish oil. Door is made of cedar is about 2.25" thick. I'll post pics once hung.

              Thanks Hank

I ordered this kit from Rockler => http://www.rockler.com/rolling-barn-...ck-round-stick and in addition ordered the longer brackets because of the thickness of the door.

I have a rough cedar 2x4 that I will first mount above the door opening into the studs to then hang this hardware from. Pictures when hung to follow.

That looks satisfying! I've found these doors blocked jams with 2 by 4's in old homes one was like Wayne's coating which opened from both sides of the doorway. Can tell you like woodworking.

Great looking door. I have used parental control on TV to limit LOML's access to those type program. As it it I can't go until 125 with all the projects she has come with. Then there is that Shabby Chic stuff and Martha and on on and on.

Are the pocket doors still in the walls?
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

Yes, it's only one door but I sealed it in its "pocket" several years ago. That was when the saloon doors were installed.

Probably too late since you've already ordered parts, but here's a solution that's probably cheaper:

Now this was a project, not that I mind, but I will say I underestimated how big this project was. Figuring out the correct ...
