ArtworksIII, I haven't had much I could add to this conversation but I am really enjoying it, just to let you know.

I think its great that you can visualize then bang these out so quickly. And I really admire your work.

    A few questions:
Do you do them all for yourself and you have a large display case full of these or are these presents or sale items?
    Do you do requests?
Are they all to the same scale (or it really looks like) you make the models about the same physical size regardless of the scale. I say that because if a common scale then some would dwarf the others.

LCHIEN Thanks for your interest. These models are part of a private collection and are sold to Aircraft owners/operators upon request as art as per type 'jet prop'.. I can work up a model relatively quick. These are static display models only. I'll show some photos of the size difference in future posts. Most display models are 1:35th as an industry standard. They fit in a space on a desk or I have wall mounts. I use to meet my clients photograph their subject get a contract and deliver the model. After 9/11 I walking the ramp at airports is not allowed. Today I just build for fun and sell them to Antique stores. Rapid prototyping has its roots in this hobby.

The above model is several years old as reference photos of it are scarce. The attachment on the nose shown in the above photo was for training Comanche pilots. More shaping is on the W/O for this model. The templates for that nose attachment are the next step.

I was recently asked if I did requests. Years ago when the health systems began investing in rural interests (air ambulances) I would contact them with a phone call which would end up as an email with photos. Today this ole helicopter has been replaced with new technologies. Depending on where you live you could see one fly over. The specs are from the maintenance manual but that's where all the parts come from obviously. Both paint schemes are on one model for space savings. I'll post photos of another example of two faced models. Both programs still operate with new paint schemes

Wild fire season is in force out here in the Pacific Northwest. Having every advantage in putting the fire out is the purpose for this aircraft. I seen one recently through a fence and man was it cool.Click image for larger version

Great work! They look a lot more correct than most of the models I've seen for retail sale. I was given a wood model C-130 as a gift and its details are quite a bit incorrect.

            Have you done a B-1b or C-130?

              Hi Tom

Hi Tom, No I haven't done a Lancer or Hercules yet. But am in the process of building a Guard rail based on a Beech KingAir 300. I broke away from scale as many of the models are sold. I'm pushing a pastime and hoping to inspire other wood workers to join in. The most detail can be found in plastic but we in display/visual only need the viewer to see the model. I'm to show the above as I like un usual aircraft. Thanks for your interest......

                Long EZE

                Hello guys,
Finally get some well deserved R and R. This model has taken just over 5 years to complete because I couldn't find an odd enough color scheme. This is a screen catch of a flight sim model I had in windows 95 I loved graphic arts in school but never though much about pursuing it. Much of my craft is fabrication then a lot of exacto knife work.As you may have noticed I like to show the templates that aid in painting a project.

ID:	787287 I find diversion every time I find a decent pallet to take apart. These weathervane models are a menagerie of bits from around my shop. Most of my buddies do this same ole dance find something they like to do and fill the bench with it. Makes for great beer banter. Got some more photos to post later. hope your all wood working......

This weathervane is purely fictional as it only exists as an RC kit. Ive been a fan of fabrication for years, and the bits an pieces made from templates is a fun for me as catching a northern pike.

Again our forests are getting burned and on the fire line are turbines. I've seen these operate in other missions but no matter what it's an expensive hourly must have tool in wild fire suppression. This one will end up on some ones desk or ceiling... It may intrest you that I use exterior flats in most every color no VOC, rolls on nice and shows up detail beautify....

Some very large firefighter helicopters such as the Boeing 234 by Columbia Helicopters Ore. These photos are old but give a good idea of that project.

                        Challenges

I have plenty to keep me busy with aviation it seems. Not being a rapid prototype machine leaves me at a distinct disadvantage. None the less I find challenging my minds eye with carves like this a good way to keep sharp.

To stay relevant in a Craft one only needs to make the most of his or her talents. The minds eye interprets the drawing the will of the crafts person takes the leap of faith. This is my 5th attempt at the model.... Anybody know why?

Anybody have questions? These line drawings should be enlarged to 239% on 11by17 size paper as per each view . Once you have printed up the line drawings. Cut them into three single drawings Top Side Front respectively prior to enlargement..

                              Hi fellow Wood Wizards.
I'd have to say I like this forum as I have yet to find any "know it all's" No ones even questioned the legitimacy of my posts. Even carving forums seem to shun the prototyping. Obviously some are following this menagerie of projects by the visits. In theory these models are quite similar to Pinewood derby cars. The sub assembly and all associated parts for this line drawing can be fabricated in 4 hours and mocked up. Click image for larger version

I enjoy your posts ArtsworksIII. Sometimes it does seem that no one is online here. Think that the readership has declined quite a bit lately. Some of the other sites are too crowded and hard to follow, that is what I like about this one, easy to follow and. Good mellow crowd. I was recently banned from one of my favorite boating sites using their Bilge thread where it said that anything goes. It was a rather racial topic and everyone was tearing up one individual and I commented that compared to this individual Paula Deen was an angel, and some other of my well placed souther racial slurs. This site does not go there, I like that, no temptation.

It's good to have various woodworking themes like yours. I haven't heard much from the pen turners in a while. Nor have I seen a boat builder on this site, would have thought it would draw some. Hadn't seen any jig sewers either!,

Don't get discouraged if you don't have a lot of replys because it looks like you have become the woodworking model maker expert here!
