what is this hardware called?

I'm hoping someone can help me with the name of this nut -- it's the kind that you tap into one side of a board, and then attach something like small table legs on the other side. Pictures are attached.

T-Nut or maybe Tee Nut. Looks like 1/4-20 threads from the photo but you probably know that you can get them in different size threads.

I buy mine at Rockler.

Those of us from the skate board generation called them RAT nuts. I use a lot of them on jigs. There is also a version of this fastener that has 3 screw holes in the flat washer part to secure the fastener in locations that it could come out when disassembling. Good in hollow boat seats!

I get them at Lowe's/Home Depot. They sell them in those little bags in the hardware area. I've gotten 5/16" but I'm sure they have more sizes.

I consider myself part of the Skater generation and we never called them rat nuts... Must have been a regional thing.

confusingly they are called T-nuts and there are other things also called T-nuts.

When it comes to hardware, I have used Mcmaster Carr to learn the names. (hope it helps you like me)
WIthout it, I have run into problems if I needed something quick and the building centers or chain hardware stores didn't have it. (would need the name for the one mom and pop store to order it as well)
I've ordered a few bits from Mcmaster after not finding them local.

I have the name problem occasionally, and translations from German often don't help. So I use Google image search a lot, enter a name that is reasonable (or at least the right family), and look for an image of what I want. The page providing that image often has the name.
