    While I'm gone ...

My wife left for a conference in Ohio yesterday and left me instructions to add a firepit to the back yard with space to sit around it. I think she's just trying to keep me out of trouble. The sod cutter is rented for tonight, Then I pick up all the block and other materials tomorrow. I got it laid out followed by opinions and suggestions from the neighborhood and found someone that needs the sod so I don't have to pay to get rid of it.

The weather here is really putting a damper on outdoor projects. It has been raining (nearly an 1" every time) every day and now it's going be 100-110 heat index with 80% humidity for the coming week. I have to wash the mold off of the north side roof on the house, but it will have to wait. I'm not taking this 78 year old body out in that.

I've gone out to look for myself. If I return before I get back, have me wait for me.

Here is where I ended up on Thursday night. The sod cutter I rented didn't cut on the left side, but I fought with it and got most of the sod cut and rolled.

The neighbor picked it up Friday morning and it is installed around their new patio and was exactly the right amount. It is kind of sad because that we the absolute best part of my lawn

Friday night I got the rest of the sod out in the areas the machine wouldn't fit and loaded onto the truck and taken to the compost site Saturday morning. I came home with a 1/2 yard of crushed limestone and set a 4' x 4' x 6" base for the fire block and set all the blocks.

There are 150 edger blocks in the truck to do the border between the lawn and the gravel area, but the heat index is now at 102 degrees so I am done for the day and hiding in the air conditioning. Minnesotans are not cut out for this kind of heat.

None of us are. I mowed the play lot next door for the neighbor today as his mower broke, and it was pretty bad even with a slight breeze and my forward motion. Tomorrow is forecasted to be worse and the garden and flowers will have to be cared for. The patio work looks nice.

I finished this with plenty of time before family came starting on the 2nd. I did manage to put a couple of divots in the lawn backing up the trailer filled with rock and also burned a patch to the right of the fire pit by laying the black metal tailgate from the trailer in the grass. Both of those will fix themselves in time

My 5' 0" wife wanted the fire ring lowered one level of blocks so she can put here feet up on it. The final result is below with our set of $15.00 chairs from Menards.
