Will This Work??

After reading the suggestions about rodents in the attic, I've got a question. One of my sheds is one of those metal put-togethers (10'x12'), and there are mice in it. Will an electronic pest repeller similar to this force them out and keep 'em out? I don't care if it's battery or 110V.

I've never tried on of those, but friends and neighbors who have say the work for about a month and then the rodents become accustomed to the sound and ignore it. Sort of like living next to a highway or an airport.

Traps are really still the most effective way of dealing with mice. Eliminate anything they want to use for nesting or food or keep it in airtight containers.

We've also used the dCon mouse bait, and then had to tear open walls to remove the decomposing mice. Shouldn't be an issue in a shed though.

twistsol is correct. The rodents get used to the sound. An effective rodent deterrent was living in one of my sheds for a while. Earlier this summer my wife found a black snake in there. I told her to leave him alone, he was keeping the other critters out. She didn't like it much.

Or maybe it works the other way. Maybe the mice say they don't like the sound and won't go back.

The mice that go back in to the shed are same mice that run around the wood shop without hearing protection. After, a short time in the shop they lose the high end frequency in their hearing. Losing the high end frequency portion of their hearing makes the sonic devices ineffective, no annoyance factor. They are also the mice you will see, they can't hear you coming either.

One I heard years ago, from a relative that was an exterminator, was alka selzter. He said if you could set a trap (food source and place to hide and eat) outside and draw them away, you could mix in the stuff. He said mice didn't burp, and it will cause them to explode.

Our doppy cat will catch the mouse and then play with it, letting it go, catching it again, carry it to the middle of the room in her mouth, set it down and start it all over again. Mouse will finally get away in about 75% of the time.

When we had two cats (1 died about a year ago) the two of them would play with a mouse together and sometimes the mouse would still get away.

We need a way to train the cat on what to do when she catches a mouse!!!
