I remember seeing something like a strobe light on TV. I think it was on Ask This Old House. The idea being that you put this slowly flashing, very bright strobe light in the dark attic and it would annoy the critters enough that they would leave.

As for the cats not doing their job.... don't feed them.

That probably would work, but think LOML would override me.

Go to the BORG and buy a package of good mouse traps. Put a little cheese or peanut butter on it and check it later. I think the old tried and true method work the best. A good mouse is a dead mouse.
