has a metal roof but was vinyl siding because we were given all of the siding for free (leftovers from a million dollar project). Bet you have never seen a vinyl siding sliding barn door before.

looks great! i like that sliding door. i think that sliding doors are also resist high winds better than ordinary doors. how long did it take you to build? any shots of what the inside looks like, the trusses, etc? did you also build your own trusses? did you do that rendering in google sketch?

it certain real cozy for those fortunate animals!

Not the usual project we see here! I built my first structure last year. It sure feels good when you can stand back and say, "I built that", doesn't it?

Looks like some animals are going to be very happy with thier new home.

Slick. I wondered about the siding when I first saw it. Innovative idea using it on the door. Keeps the weight down.

Looks nice. Looks like it would make a pretty good shop too.

Looks like you did a great job on building it. I wish I had room to build something similar to it.

Nice job. Who can resist free siding? And, it gave a very 'finished' and high-class appearance to a normally plain, utilitarian structure.

                          thanks guys

the sliding door was one of the biggest challenges, it took a little ingenuity but I figured it out.

The door is 2" thick before the siding was added. To start I wrapped the top and sides with the metal drip edge that has a folded over (not sharp) back edge. I then put j channel on top of the drip part of the edge and sided like regular. I then caulked the seams between the drip edge and the j to make it look seamless.

                            to answer your questions

The barn probable only took me about a 80-100 hours total, but I spread this out over about 8 months. I would have done it right away, but my sister really needed a place to keep her dairy feeder calf so it became a roofed corral until fair time. This was about the time school started so between school and work that didn't give me much time to work on my other projects.

I'll try to get some shots of the inside a little later.

                            to answer your other questions

no i did not build the trusses, I was given them because they were the wrong size at another big project. They were just going to put them in the dumpster and crush them up. ( I couldn't let that happen)

and yes that is a rendering from sketchup
