It's been over a decade since this has been talked about here, but just curious. Has anyone replaced the cheap plastic elevation handwheel with a milled aluminum one and if so where did you source up that handwheel? There was an adapter I seem to recall that would allow us to use D hole style handwheels and I messed up and never got one... This is not a must have but more of a nice to have thing....

A handwheel replacement for BT3s
Noticed that an Ebay seller has a replacement part for the discontinued handwheel used for tilt and elevation $21.75 free shipping. I have no connection to the seller. https://www.ebay.com/itm/33422254476...Cclp%3A2047675 (https://www.ebay.com/itm/334222544760?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE
Adapting standard handwheels to BT3 with an adapter.
I am cross posting this because I think it might stand alone and be easier to find. This is the drawing for the half inch Handwheel to BT3000/BT3100 Adapter I did not design this, it was sold by an eBayer 7 years ago and I just copied the dimensions. My part was cut in aluminum. THere are really no critical dimensions except
Putting a plastic blade adj. crank on a steel shaft is such poor design/execution that i'm guessing that there are numerous viable remedies out there for a replacement "handwheel" (even if I wanted a crappy OEC replacement they're extinct. So far i've learned that for about 20 bucks i can get metal crank+adapter
Here's how I adapted a Griz handwheel to the BT3 with an adapter
Here is my measured drawing of the handwheel adapter, it would be easy to make one from 3D printing I imagine, not sure how durable but probably OK.

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.

Here's a printed 3D one from Thingiverse
This wheel can get its center slot-hole stripped if you try to turn it too hard as it is the only non-metal piece involved in the blade raise/lower mechanism. Lubricate your bevel gears! It's a tight fit and I had to file both the crank handle pin hole and the center slot a tiny bit. Use a pair of snap ring pliers (generally an automotive tool; you might be able to borrow from your local auto parts store) to transfer the handle. Use a mallet and a block of wood to lightly tap the wheel onto the center axle before replacing the center hex screw.
There are ways to embed metal bits in a print. A simple re-inforcement ring would help.
Quite a few bits for the BT3000 on there:

I bring it up since Dave mentioned that he has a 3D printer. I just got started with 3D printing because of solutions like these for the shop. I use the router table on my BT3000, and I wanted new and better rings for the table.Comment

Cool. Yeah I have that file bookmarked if not downloaded I do not recall presently... I haven't 3D printed in a while, I need to dust it off and dessicate my filament. Probably level the print bed again before I have a go at it again...Please like and subscribe to my YouTube channel. Please check out and subscribe to my Workshop Blog.Comment
