Info on rip fence part

I just realized that my BT3000 rip fence has lost its "dowel pin"; this is listed as part # 8, figure 61, on Ray Girling's online BT3000 manual[/img]; the number of this part is reversed with the "roll pin" (part #4) in the online BT3100 manual, but I think "dowel pin" sounds right to me. The manual says this pin has dimensions of 3/4" x 1/4"; can someone tell me what material this item is made from? Are there any protrusions or indentations that I should know about as I try to fashion a replacement? (Rather than ordering something from the US, I'd like to jury rig something here if it's not too difficult).
TIA

On second thought, does anyone have any article or procedures manual for disassembling the rip fence? It looks like the clamper needs lubrication and adjustment as well.

It can be quite uncomfortable going around with an unlubricated clamper...

It's been a while, but as I recall, mine is just a smooth pin. I am amazed that it just doesn't slide out...

Well, mine apparently did just that.

Hmm, that's a euphemism I've not heard before.

Norm, I looked up that same part in the Bt3100 manual of mine....same part number as yours. That is just a solid roll pin 1/4" diameter and 3/4" in length.
Any good hardware store should have one for less than a dollar.

Thanks all. The part is a dowel pin, not a roll(ed) pin--they seem to have accidentally reversed the part numbers on the BT3100 illustration. Unfortunately, your average local "hardware shop" here in Japan doesn't carry inch-denominated anythings, so I have tentatively made a replacement out of a wooden dowel. I'll try and find something more substantial as time goes on.

Hey Norm try E replacement parts online, look up parts for the BT3000 and they have all 5 or 6 parts to fix the lock down on the back of the rip fence.

Norm, I have some 1/4" aluminum rod stock i could just cut off a piece if that'll do.
I.m sure it's under an ounce and basically non-breakable so it'll be cheap for me to send. It'll cost me about $1.44 for first class to Japan, not sure how long that'll take.

PM me if you want to pursue this.

Thanks much for the offer, Loring, much appreciated. I've got mine working for now, so I'll go with it and see how things work.
