Miter Saw Stand Comparison. I believe the Delta in the review has been replaced by a newer model but it is a good bit more expensive than the MSUV.

OK, you guys talked me back into it. On my way to Home Depot, before going home. This is going to be a cool night. My new Delta 12" CMS has been sitting on the front porch since 1 PM. Getting new tools always gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Hey sacherjj--which Delta 12" did you get? I just got the 36-412 dual bevel cms. I loved the idea of the built in crown stops, but I haven't fired it up yet.

I was also really surprised by how much this thing weighs, but it went together very easily and it sure is easy to move around and set up. Soooooo much better than having to do all my cutting on the ground like I've been doing. I'm not looking forward to having to lift it into the back of a vehicle though!

I got the 36-255L. I didn't figure the dual bevel was worth the price for me. I liked the dual laser and decided that a non-sliding design would be more accurate. With the Amazon discounts, I got it for $229, which is a great deal. For crown, I saw a jig at the WW show that made sense. It was simply a long piece of plastic at a 45 degree angle. Then you lay the crown directly on that. All the cuts then became simple miters. It made sense that error is introduced when stops aren't exactly right. I figured I would make one of these jigs if I need to cut crown in the future.

Thanks all for the tips on the MSUV. This thing is great. The wheels are large enough that they won't have a problem rolling in even wet grass. They are also very nice bearing wheels, not just a cheesy bolt through a plastic hub. Definitely a deal at $99. It is even a good buy at $149. There was only one left after another guy picked up one right after me, at the Southport (exit 90 off of I-65) Home Depot in South Indy. I also picked up 2 Hercu-Lifts for $29. I'm looking at putting my jointer to be and lathe to be on those for moving around. They have atleast 10 more of the Hurcs on the shelf, but the tag stated "while supplies last" so I don't know if they are getting rid of these or not.

FWIW - The knobs on the MSUV I picked up were black.

I recently purchased this unit about 2 weeks ago ( and thanks to this site I went in and had them do a price adjustment to the $99 price ), and have been wowed, intrigued, excited, and above all PLEASED! When folded, it only occupies about a 3 x 2 footprint, yet unfolds to yield a flat work surface with 8 FEET OF WORK SUPPORT! It rolls really smoothly, and is easy to manipulate, though I wish it did have a dedicated handle of some sort to use during movement. Other than that, this thing flat out rocks! If you can find better bang for the buck, and one that operates better, I would like to know. What are you waiting for??? Go and get it... go on....

It's a breeze! Drill four holes and attach the saw with provided bolts. Couldn't be easier! I installed a GMC SCMS.

First and foremost, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! The last time this was on sale, I missed it, said I wouldn't miss it again. I had been looking at a sawhorse style stand at Sears for only $30 less, and there was no comparison.

Second, RmeDad, how do you like that GMC scms? I used up a gift card to buy the GMC compound miter saw, when they were on closeout, Checked it and it was cutting accurate, but wish I had the slider for wider stuff. Has it been accurate?
I use an older, early 60's Dewalt ras in the shop, and would like something portable for those, help others projects.

Third, it's always this time of year, Woodworking show, tools sales, it just drives me crazy, as I never have enough saved for all the toys. (Still have to pay the credit card off every month)

Once again, Thank you. (called my local borg for price and stock check, two on the accessible shelf, and a few more in stock in Independence, picked it up today for $99, still marked $149)

Well, technically it's not actually a tool; It's really just an accessory. So, you can buy it without violating your promise to yourself.

man all you guys talking this up is looking like I need to make a covert trip to the BORG and pick one of these up. Every owner that I have talked to swear by this thing and now to hear all of you talk it up make me want one to.

The only problem I ran into is the bolts supplied are not long enough to mount my Delta 12". I need atleast another 3/8". That means a trip back to the store. That might be dangerous, because I never leave with just what I came for.

I read the miter saw stand review last night. My thanks to the poster. After looking at the features and making a trip to the BORG, I think I might go for the new Ryobi stand if it will fit my DW705. It doesn't have the wheels, but it has stop blocks and it allows the saw to slide between the support ends for greater versitility in cutting arrangements.

Can someone talk me out of it please?

The rollers on the Ridgid can be used as stops by raising them above the surface of your CMS.

I bought one the first time around when they were on sale. It's a great accessory, and very handy.


A tip:

My Ryobi CMS didn't match with the mounting holes in the MSUV, so I had to attach the CMS to a piece of plywood, which I then attached to the MSUV.

If you end up having to do the same, make sure that the fence of your CMS is square with the stops/rollers before fastening the plywood to the MSUV. I didn't do this the first time, and it affects the accuracy of using the roller as a stop-block.
