    well something went right.

I know the AC worked fine yesterday. Today both of us went out and came back after noon. By 1:30 it seemed to be getting warm so I checked the AC and it was set at 76 but the inside temperature was 82 and outside it was 94 high today. The air blowing out of the registers was over 80.

I called the AC service company I used last time at 2:00 and they had a guy at the house at 2:30.
He checked the system and said there was a loose 230V wire on the contactor arcing. They had replaced the start capacitor on last visit.
He said it was still under warranty and there would be no charge.
    Gone by 3:00

That is the fastest and cheapest AC service I have ever had in 51 years of owning homes in Houston.

When I called the A/C service company it was Friday afternoon. Their first offer was, "Is Monday OK" to which I responded, "No,"
She called back a few minutes later and said a guy was on his way, he was at my house less than 30 minutes later. Lucky me.

While I have a really good mini split ac system in my shop where I could temporarily retreat to if the house ac bit th dust, I have a 120v window ac back up that will keep the master bedroom comfortably cool. Nothing like sleeping in your bed!

I had 17 new windows installed yesterday. For most of the day I had several 4x6 foot holes in my walls open to the outside when it was in the upper nineties. The air conditioning worked about as well as it did when it was not working at all.

You didn’t turn the AC off during the install? We had 19 Pella replacement windows installed in our previous home and the installer foreman asked us to turn the system off to reduce dust being blown around while they were cutting out the old wood windows. They held a shopvac hose under the demo saw to catch the cuttings. They also covered HVAC vents in any room they worked in. Don’t recall the ambient air temperature, but it was pretty in the summer time.

well they didn't suggest it. They put up plastic sheeting barriers around the windows they were working on and that helped some. Overall keeping the air on kept the house from being toast. They did use shopvacs to collect cuttings from the saws.
