    You think you're prepared.

My sister called this morning to let me know that our dad passed away just before midnight last night after 102 years. Hew was a farmer, teacher, school administrator, WWII veteran, business leader and had advanced degrees in mathematics and educational administration. He had the uncanny ability to never forget a name or a face and could instantly recall the details of the last conversation he had with someone whether it was last week or 20 years earlier. He smiled often and had infinite patience. Despite my best efforts as a kid, I don't recall him ever getting angry.

We've known this was coming for years and knew it was soon last week and yet it still comes as a surprise.

Here he is on his 101st birthday with a couple of the more recent great grandkids.

    Sorry, for your loss, Chris.

102 is a ripe old age, sounds like it was filled with life and he lived a good life.
May your family grieve appropriately and then live on to be 102 yourselves with your own families around you as you were around him.

Unfortunately, you can never be prepared. I thought I was when I lost my dad. I wasn't. So sorry for your loss. He sounds like he was a great guy.
