Between retiring and not having any children living at home, the day-of-the-week was sometimes a mystery. Usually by the time the evening News rolls around I'm back into knowing.
Retirement!... I used to think that I was never going to retire, I liked what I did for a living and had the respect of the people I worked with. But as they say, " *hIt happens". The company merged, and I got laid off after thirty years, no longer qualified because some yahoo, was telling me I didn't have a four-year Degree. At fifty-eight years old, it was upsetting. But as my wife pointed out, "you need them less than they need you, so retire!". After almost twenty years now, we're doing well, and the company? Well with two plant closures and with employment down by more than 3,000 at the third, they're barely hanging on.

My Mom used to wake up at 4 or 5 every morning to drive to work and then get home at 5 to then cook dinner. She did this for nearly 25 years for the same employer but in different regions of the Mid-Atlantic.
She retired about 5 years ago ( a year earlier than she was fully eligible), and she now loves rubbing it in that she no longer has to wake up early or even keep track of the day--except Sunday. I guess she's more than earned it, though.
Twenty more years...👍 1Comment
