    Thinking About Another Gun

Got a wild hair to add to my gun collection. Always had a love for the Ruger Blackhawk short barrel revolvers. Makes me think of a verse from Marty Robbin's 'Mister Shorty'.

    (From a previous verse:
"I hadn't noticed but there on his hip
    Was a short-barreled Bass Forty-Four"

But the little man's hands was like lightning
The Bass Forty-Four was the same
The Forty-Four spoke and it sent lead and smoke
    And seventeen inches of flame

If I do get one I will have to get a video of firing it at night.....

I was looking at .41 Magnum, no real reason for that caliber other than I wanted one. Stopped by Cabela's on the way home from Austin Tuesday to check out magazines for my 1911 and was pricing ammo. Since .41 mag is not a common/popular caliber I knew it would cost more but I wasn't expecting almost 2x the price of .45 ammo. Made me look again at options. Ruger chambers the same gun in a .45 and puts out a convertible model that comes with an extra cylinder that fires .45 ACP (Auto) ammo in addition to the .45 Long Colt rounds. Going that route would let me use the same ammo in it and my 1911.

The drawback in using auto ammo in a revolver is having to use the half moon clips. I fumbled too much trying to use them. I like the .44 special caliber revolvers.

      .41 Mag is fun.
Half moon and full moon clips are a hassle.
.45 Colt is kick as well.

Sure wish my eyesight was better...

If you handload the caliber makes very little difference in the cost. My only pistol is a 45 GAP. I need to get a bunch of cases before it stops being a police option and the ammo gets even harder to find. If I have a few hundred cases, I will be good as long as I can shoot it.

I like bigger bullets and don't find the recoil to be much different. But everybody seems to be different on recoil affects. If you like the 41 and can handload if you have to, I wouldn't avoid it because of ammo.

Yeah, pretty much what Jim writes. I reload and cast my own bullets. Primers and powder are pretty much my only shooting expense. Bullet lube when factored into cost per round is insignificant.

With the Blackhawk Convertible you change the cylinder to change from .45 Long Colt to .45 ACP. Half moon clips aren't needed.

Pulled the trigger (pun intended) a couple of weeks ago on a Ruger .45 Convertible with a 4 5/8" barrel. Last week I also got a Beretta .32 Tomcat for the wife to use as a carry gun. Put a few rounds through both guns Friday afternoon in the back yard as well as testing the feed from some new magazines for my semi-auto pistols.

Of course with the Ruger I had to have a 'proper' way to carry it.

The pictures were taken after we were done shooting. We were wearing hearing protection when firing.

Probably a good thing you put the pictures in that order. Otherwise it would look like the two of you were aiming for the other. I won't go into why that is so troubling right now, as it isn't officially released.

Yesterday I shot this AR pistol and now I simply must have one.

I just picked up a new asalt shotgun at Sams. Now I can shoot all I want on my patio, yard and garden without having the neighbors calling the police.
This shotgun seems to be a well built heavy plastic device. It holds enough table salt for 80 shots. One pump cocks fhe gun, and it seems to have as much power as the good old daisy pump BB guns. A house fly doesn't have a chance! Funny thing, when I walked onto the patio with my new gun the flies disappeared. Cheap insect repellent.
