2x6 Challenge 2011

Registration is now open and has been tested by me. More about that later.

The purpose of this contest is three fold:

1. To raise funds to keep BT3Central.com alive
2. To drive traffic on BT3Central
3. To encourage members to work in their shop

So far the rules are simple:

• Materials choice is limited to one stick nominal 2"x6"x8' std & btr. grade construction lumber as is commonly available at a home center or box store in the members zip code. (like we will be able to check this).
• You may use other wood, metal, fabric, hardware, etc. as long as the focus remain on what you can make from the 2x6. The other material is for accent or hardware use only. The project shall not depend on an accent. Limit to <10% of project.
• Registration deadline is March 31, 2011.
• All projects must be submitted no later than 12:00 PM EST April 30, 2011.
• Judging will be by popular vote by members via the forum poll function.
• Prizes will be awarded based on member polls, meaning at this time we do not have a breakdown. Please add you input in the comming month to the prize poll.

• Turned
• Non-turned
• Bandsaw Box
• Toys

Prizes pledged so far (bold denotes BT3Central sponsors):

• milescraft double tall feather board set
• Shark Guard
• $100 BORG gift card (Home Depot)
• T-nuts, knobs, and fixture blocks from T-nuts.com
• $300 retail value from Holbren.com

The idea is to make something great from a plain piece of wood. Your skills, imagination and creativity is what will be judged. Your sense of personal acomplishment is perhaps the greatest prize as well as the warm feeling you will get knowing that you did your part in keeping BT3Central online.

Registration is performed via the Fund Drive Page. Choose 2x6 Challenge Patrons level. Payments processed by Paypal. You may also mail in a payment but you must clearly communicate your username and your wish for challenge entry.

Entries are slowly being added. With the great pizes we have lined up odds of taking home a good prize are really good. For any of the members who took part in the last challenge feel free to post your submission from then in this thread to inspire folks.

Update, So far we have four entrants including me. Will we need to extend the entry period?

I've been swamped with non-WW related activities and haven't had time to come up with a project.

Assuming I pick up a 2x6 this week, anyone have suggestions on how to dry it in time to make an entry?

My offer for a Shark Guard is known, but that offer extends to any model that I make one for. Any options one might want and two ZCTP's if the lucky winner has a BT.

2011 Challenge

I am starting to think of a project , as soon as I have something I will register.

I've got a project idea, and it stinks... I would hate to ship a feather board to myself guys, come up with some projects!

Embarrassingly my first concept which was completely laid out on paper sketch with some dimensions, proved to be out of my skill level My last day off from work was the 6th and the next will be the 18th... I am still coming up with plan B, but it will have to take back seat to replacing my front brakes and hitting up the Woodworking show!! I have tried to get out for that every year for the last 3-4 years and I am always working, so I am pretty excited about this one :-)

So I have this right, we have to use only the 2"x6"x8' peice. I was thinking of something using 4 pcs.-3/8"x6"x8' peices. Would this be allowed?

If you can resaw that 2x6x8 to those dimensions, I would think so!
