    Don't Worry About Us...

I awoke this morning, in the aftermath of a blizzard, to a frozen Tundra.

We should be able to dig out in a week or so if we don't get any more. (Or this afternoon when the temps are back in the 40's.)

I am off for the weekend, so I haven't checked the roads. With the temp in the 20's there is probably a little ice on the bridges and a lot of bent sheet metal on the side of the road from idiots trying to drive 75 mph.

Great write up, Don! Have you thought about being a news reporter?

            Hey Don,

If you're having trouble getting rid of the snow on your walks, I'll gladly send you an auto windshield brush and scraper.

I'm still at home in my jammies because the office is closed today. I told LOML that folks in Baltimore were laughing their tails off at us this morning...

In all fairness, TXDOT has a good number of roads closed in the area as the de icing trucks delivered stuff that simply didn't work... When I got up at 7:00 there were already over 100 accidents in Houston...

Looks like what we would call a "heavy frost".

Heck, the guy who plows our driveway leaves more snow behind than that. On the other hand, I've been in Dallas during ice storms and I know that in the South, it's best to stay off the roads until they're clean and dry.

here in houston snowy/icy weather is dangerous not just because of the ice but also because of the other drivers who have no idea of how to drive in it.

You know the same guys who fly by you at 75 mph in a driving rainstorm - they're still doing 70 on the icy roads...

I was glad to stay home from work today - Freezing rain from early AM through the morning combined with 20-something degree temperatures - 200 accidents reported overnight by 7:30 AM as all the overpasses iced over.

When it's snowing, I'm not going. If I'm at home, I'm not getting in the way of the plows and I'm not a threat to other drivers (and they're not a threat to me).

I know it's different for public safety folks, but I'm not one of them, either.

Gotta agree with Loring. Texas drivers have no idea to 1) drive slow 2) do NOTHING sudden 3) tap the brakes to slow. 1/2" snow here, saw 3 accidents in 10 miles to work at 9:00 (clinic opened 1.5 hours late).

NOW the streets are water and slush. Glad I DON'T have to drive tomorrow when it will be ice!

HEY, you folks "up north." I grew up in Pa. so snow and ice don't bother me. But you have NO idea what even 1/4" on the roads means here - DANGER Will Robinson!

What he said. When I lived in Austin, we got a little snow one afternoon. Just about all my co-workers asked to leave early. I asked how much snow we could get, and my boss said, "As much as an INCH!!!"

I felt pretty smug until I realized that most of the drivers out there had no clue how to drive in the snow, so I went home early, too.

Yea, a lot of us down here don't know how to drive on ice & snow. I do, but I will only do it if absolutely necessary. Too many other morons out there in a big hurry. They will tailgate you on ice & snow just as if it was dry.

I was pretty entertained by some guy in a new vette or the like this morning on the news. He must have spent at least 30 or so minutes on an upslope bridge trying to go forward. Opening the throttle a lot on ice ain't gonna get you anywhere.

I don't even like driving in the rain in my '69 Camaro. Lots of horsies and torque make it difficult to keep the back tires sticking, no posi, steering is getting soft, and it doesn't have all the computerized braking.
