My Dog Passed Away Today..... :(

My dog Skye passed away this morning in her sleep. She stopped eating (even treats!) on Friday. We went to the vet on Saturday and blood work suggested a liver problem (cancer, infection, or otherwise...more invasive tests were needed to determine exactly - but she's old and I didn't want to put her through it). They suggested at a bare minimum, trying some antibiotics, but they needed to be taken with food. She ate a little on Saturday and I got one pill in her, but she wouldn't eat or drink anything after that. I even put fresh grilled salmon in front of her and she just turned her head away.

By Sunday she couldn't walk and needed to be carried outside to go to the bathroom. She drank a little water - but only took one tiny piece of bacon when I put it in front of her nose. By Sunday night - she was just lying on her bed looking at me with 'those' eyes. I started calling around to find an 'in-home' euthanasia service that could put her down on Monday.

We went to sleep (I slept next to her in the living room). When I woke up this morning, she was gone....... I'm glad she went on her own terms but I'm still very sad.

Here are my favorite pics of her - I rescued her from the pound and we had 8 great years together.........

I feel for your loss. I have been in the same spot somewhat recently... Those that don't share their lives with a good dog have no clue what you are going through...

I feel your loss. My inlaws just lost their dog on saturday. The vet figures she had a ruptured spleen.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Only those who have experienced the bond you had with your girl can appreciate just how close they become and how much a part of the family they really are.

It's ironic and cruel that we attach to something that we know will only be with us for a very short part of lives, yet we become completely and helplessly hooked.

It sounds like you gave her every comfort at the end and 8 glorious years of happiness---don't ever forget that---she didn't and that's why you "belonged" to her. I only hope the poem is somehow based on the truth.

What a beautiful dog, who had eight beautiful years with you. Feel proud, as well as sad.

I feel for your loss, Crybdr! She was beautiful and what an awesome name. I can't even imagine what you are going through right now, emotionally.

                    Kindest Regards,
                    Chris

She was a great looking canine.

I am sorry that she passed away. You being there in her last hours gave her love, and she needed it at that time. Many of us here at BT3 feel the sorrow.

So sorry for the lost! I've been through the cycle with 5 of them and decided not to take on another about 5 years ago with the last passing. A trip to the shelter sounds fitting as I am sure there is one there that has been waiting for your arrival.
