      Thanks...

Thanks to everyone here for your supportive comments. They mean a lot to me.

She was a particularly beautiful yellow lab - with a very pretty color, a little darker than usual. She had great eyes too! And that head-tilt killed me every time she did it!

Last night was hard being alone in the house. I thought I caught her shadow out of the corner of my eye a couple of times. I also thought I heard her moving around on her bed at the foot of my bed. From people I've talked to - these are pretty common experiences - part of the grieving process. I haven't put her stuff away yet - I'll probably do it this weekend.

I'm confident she's in a better place now - but I do miss her quite a lot, and it plainly sucks. But I will be okay - and I have fantastic memories of my time with her to reflect upon.

      Thanks again everyone.

It's taken me until now to be able to offer my condolences. My GS does the exact same "head cock" when we're playing around, and seeing Skye doing it, and knowing what you're going through, brings tears to my eyes. The pics say it all, she was a loving companion, and I know you'll miss her.

You'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so sorry for your loss of Skye. She was a beautiful lab. I am happy to hear that you will be okay and it sounds like she may be trying to let you know she is okay too.

Firstly - my condolences to you. Skye was a beautiful dog. I hope you get another dog.

I also have dog we took from a shelter when she was 2 months old. She is now 13-1/2 years old. Vets call her geriatric - beyond old. Who knows how long she has left. But that is really not important. She has a happy life and so do we thanks to her. I often hear people say they don't want to take a dog because they are unsure they can provide proper environment, people are old, etc. All such arguments are invalid. Dog shelters have very low survival rate - around 15%. Typical dog that gets into a shelter will have 3-6 months in the shelter and will never come out. If you take the dog from a shelter - every year the dog is with you is a gift to you and the dog.

We brought Samantha from the shelter when our son was 11 and we wanted him to grow together with the dog. He has grown up, got a job and now lives separately. Samantha stays with us. Our son and Samantha are still best friends. He visits often, not sure to see us or Samantha.
