Not everything Holmes does is correct. In one of his first shows he rebuilt a retaining wall. After the show was filmed, it was discovered that the wall was on the city easement.

Wall had to come down and rebuilt (this was the 3rd time!) . That goof was NOT filmed nor discussed.

Wait to you see the house that was completely demolished and rebuilt with hi-tech energy savings and features. Even included an elevator!

I don't think everything he does is necessary. In last night's episode he was installing a skylight. When they got up there to install it, they discovered flashing was done incorrectly and water was getting under the shingles. They tore off the shingles and roof sheathing and resheathed the roof. I would have torn back enough to let it dry out, then kept the sheathing assuming it wasn't rotted. It might have been but what I could see on camera didn't look like it.

I DVR it off of HGTV. There was a pre-Pinky (Corin) bunch of shows, then they showed an episodes where she was hired as an intern. When she got her required hours, Mike hired her full time.

Then HGTV cycled through more pre-Pinky seasons before resuming airing of "new to HGTV" shows.

Pinky left the crew during the 2009 season in New Orleans, which I don't think has aired on HGTV, yet.

No, I'm not obsessed with her. Really.

Me either, really. I don't even have her on DVR (darn it).

I like the show and watch it from my TIVO. I wish all of these remodeling shows would tell how much they spent to do the remodel. I know there are extra costs due to the TV filming, but they could come pretty close if they wanted to.

This show is great, and really gets you fired up. Now if they will just keep the UK version off our tv's we will not be instantly be turned off knowing that it is just another scripted play. Anyone remember Junk Yard Wars? A kinda hokey show where opposing teams used a makeshift fab shop in a junk yard to create some functional contraption to compete with their opponent. All the guys at work were into this show and we laughed and had a great time discussing it, and then the UK Junk Yard Wars came on. Dang if it was not word for word the exact show as we had just seen, only in a britt junk yard. What a let down.

Most of these shows are old reruns. Whatever it cost in 2008 is likely irrelevant today.

The shows that do talk about cost, like the house flipping shows, are all outdated when they air.

Certainly a good point, but like jhart, I would still like to know what the costs were at the time of production.

Love that show. Been doing a LOT of remodeling of my own house lately, and the stuff I am finding that the original builder did, well let's just say that the Mennonites wouldn't even think of some of the DUMB shortcuts that were done on my house!

I really ought to sue my inspector. If he missed this stuff he has no business doing home inspections!

Yea, I love the show too but our Comcast affiliate here doesn't broadcast anything newer than '08 and they must have only 10 episodes accessible to them. My home was built in the mid '70's and has been 'worked on - more like over' by ther contractors over the years. I fear the unseen having seen some of the disrepair.
                        Blessings,
                        Chiz
