One thing I discovered with Dish Network is this show. I am watching one right now where even allowing a 25% or so fudge factor for drama on TV, the contractor that Holmes is cleaning up after was terrible. Although on the one hand ripping up the kitchen subfloor was extreme, when you find a live wire buried under the tile, I suppose you don't know what else is under there.

Some of the disasters Mike is called in to fix are just amazing. I really feel bad for some of these people who've been dragged through a remodel nightmare - I wonder how many horror stories get turned down for every one chosen.Bill in Buena ParkComment

I watch this quite a bit and frankly find Pinky distracting. I should be looking at what she is working on, not her and her attributes. At least put her in some coveralls instead of tank tops... I'm surprised any of her co-workers have any fingers left. Oh, but then no one would watch.
But boy some of that quality of work he finds is scary. One of the selling points for me on my home was the structure. My builder has an extended family of Menonites that put the sticks up for his homes. They sure do it right. Kind of the old fashioned way, including some real hammers, but that's fine with me. They have a lot of attention to detail. I've seen the old guy in the hat with the beard walking around watching everything on some of the new homes going up. Not many in the last year. Most people wouldn't notice and it was a selling point for me...Kavoom

Raffi, the episode I watched last night that prompted this thread was a contractor who left a kitchen not even half finished for 3 months. Basically everything was done wrong. Framing, plumbing, wiring, etc including leaving a live wire in the subfloor. At least it had wire nuts on the end. Apparently he was a licensed electrician. Holmes and his electrician were talking on the show about getting the guy's license pulled.David

Shows like that are a real heads up to homeowners, that just because someone is a licensed contractor of one type or another, that they still could be idiots.

Great Show! One of the major networks should pick up this show. They would have a hit on their hands. Think of how many people remodel, or plan to remodel, their home. Mike Holmes comes across as a good/decent guy, that cares about what he is doing. He doesn't have "blow ups", or temper tantrums that other "reality" show hosts display, and he treats his subs with respect.
The home owner on last night's show, didn't seem to appreciative to Holmes, his crew, or his subs, especially considering they just rescued him from a nightmare. I am not a contractor, but helping unappreciative homeowners like that would really get to me. The homeowner seemed like an *&&.
But great show, and worth watching.Comment

I dunno about the homeowner. For starters he'd been through h*ll on the remodel already so he was probably just burnt out by everything. Also IME, the people who most appreciate things like what Holmes does are the DIYers or other contractors who understand the effort it takes. I love my wife dearly but my dad and one of my brothers understand and appreciate more than she does the effort I am going through on building this room. Why? They know how hard it is. They've both done the work. They like the stories. She doesn't care all that much.David

Could you believe the live wire in the floor? (What do you think the guy was thinking to leave a live wire buried in the floor? I don't get it.) Guess a flood from dishwasher or anything else could have ended in death to anyone in the water. Looked like a real nightmare to pull up all that flooring.Raffi, the episode I watched last night that prompted this thread was a contractor who left a kitchen not even half finished for 3 months.
