    Will They Confiscate These?

I am flying up to Indy next week to help my FIL load a truck and drive stuff back. He drove up but forgot my ratcheting straps. So, if I put them in my carry-on do you think the TSA will let me fly with them? I couldn't find anything that says no, but my experience with the bureaucratic mind is if something is unusual, the answer is no.

you can put them in checked baggage but if that's all you have then you'd save money buying new ones at HF when you get there at $15 per bag each way.

I should have added I am not checking a bag. I will only be there two nights.

Go to Home Depot, grab a $20.00 package of 4 cargo straps. The $$ is well worth not dealing with the TSA...

Yeah, that is what I am thinking too but it is just annoying to have to do that.

Well, What do you actually look like? Do you go through the check points acting fidgeting and having shifting eyes? Have you been personally pulled aside and checked on several occasions and therefore for have a "profile" look?

Seriously, stuff like that is pure iffy! I wouldn't take the chance.

              Various hassles

A short while after 9/11, I thoughtlessly tried carrying some 40" HF wood clamps onboard my flight back to Japan, but was turned back at security; I quickly put them in a box for skiis and shipped them with the baggage. Luckily the airline did it for free.

Then just last year I tried checking a brand new reverse-osmosis water filter system with my baggage, but was called back and told they couldn't put it with the baggage since their x-ray couldn't see through the steel storage tank. I quickly called my brother in law and he raced to the airport and took the tank and mailed it to me later (it was okay in the postal mail--go figure). As it turns out, the tank was damaged in the mail to Japan (dent in one side almost went through the wall), but I actually got money from the postal system to replace it.

Well, you could just go with the bummish look, wear ragged jeans and wear the straps as a belt

Naw! I think you'd be safer just buying them when you get there.

The TSA is not always on the ball, but you sure don't want to look anything like the profile. My son travels a lot and never had a single problem until a couple of years ago when he decided to grow a beard. A few trips later he expressed his concern that security must be on the watch for something as he had been stopped on his last three flights.

I asked him when was the last time he looked in the mirror! He shaved and has had no further problems.

                  If you have to ask......

Common sense plays no role in the design of the systems designed to ensure our safety while flying. But at least I'm sure the millions of wasted hours and dollars have decreased the chance of any serious incident by at least 3-5%.

Put them in a bag with S&M devices and lotions. Report back with reactions.

Going through the metal detector and having bags x-rayed is fine. This whole thing with taking one's shoes off drives me insane.

Too bad I can't fly my little Cessna everywhere (takes three days to get to Florida if I'm flying alone).

I wouldn't see why not. Last time I flew, security was pretty lax on us, and when my mom accidentally tried to bring yogurts through security they only took out 3 of the dozen or so she had. They also didn't question any of the giant needles I had for my insulin pump. I don't even they noticed I had one.

I'll bet they are on sale at HF, you need to go there for more rope anyway
