We were flying internationally a few years ago, and bringing Swarovski ornaments as gifts to the people we were visiting. They are crystal and usually pointy as in a star. Security hemmed and hawed for 10 minutes, even called over a supervisor, who finally cleared us to take them on board.
Once on board, the duty free came around...guess what they were selling...

Two options - pack them if you are willing to abandon them or else ship them back. USPS would charge less than $5. If Christmas presents will be shipped to you, ask them to include them then...

Any chance you can contact some one in authority and get a answer that way. How about if you report them as you check in? My sister flew back from England with a replica flintlock pistol. She reported it before she got on the flight and the crew locked it up until they cleared customs back in Toronto.

The problem I think is that you might get different answers on different shifts. Much of it is still subjective. I've seen lots of posts by traveling musicians who have it confirmed they can bring their $3K+ instrument on board and stow it in the suit closet, only to be told at boarding time they need to gate-check it. Sometimes they even have a letter from the head of TSA (who apparently is/was a musician) and STILL get hassled about it.

My wife's friend, coming to help during her chemotherapy, had to abandon her eyelash curlers due the threat they posed. I'd buy them there though the suspender idea should work especially if used with leiderhosen.
