    Another eBay "situation"

On May 23 I bid and paid for via paypal a DVD set using buy it now.
The seller had 32000+ transactions and 99% positive feedback.
I immediately got confirmation and USPS ship/track number.

Some time soon after the item appeared on USPS tracking but as usual for USPS it said that a electronic notice had been posted by the shipper that the item was to be shipped but had not actually been received by the USPS. It remained this way for quite a while.

On Jun 6 I queried the seller saying it had been 10 business days and i had not received it. He replied that it had been shipped within 2 days and noted that May 25 was a holiday, media mail takes 5-10 days and so 10 days had not yet passed.

So on June 10 I sent a message I still had not received it, and there was not delivery confirmation on USPS tracking. He replied "Yes, it was sent within 2 business days. USPS does not scan in the package when I give it to them, just when it gets delivered. I will go ahead and process your order again, but when/if you receive two, please refuse one of them and have it come back to me. Thank you."

He did not give me a new tracking number. Now its a couple of days later and all of a sudden the original USPS tracking number shows all this activity beginning Jun 13 (see attachment). It appears to be on its way with the original tracking number. (P.s. he's in Fla, I'm in TX)

So, was it lost in the innards of the USPS and my seller is honest? Or, did he not physically ship it until I complained twice?

I wondering if i should post positive feedback for his effort to resend it, or if i should be neutral for being so long, or if i should make a negative for having failed to ship the first time. I would normally use negative only for complete failure to ship /wrong item with no satisfaction. The dilemma appears to be if he is making good despite USPS screwups or if he really is really the one who screwed up.

In any case I won't post feedback until i get one and maybe see if i get two. Mail comes to my neighborhood cluster box. To refuse it do I just mark it refused and stick it back in the outgoing mail slot?

I'd probably post neutral feedback that you had to wait a long time, but seller worked with you and you eventually received it.

I'd wait until I see two. I still don't think it warrants a negative feedback though. A neutral maybe if he wasn't straight up.

Yes, on the refused question. I learned that, when I received a poorly packed item, that had come open in shipping (missing contents, empty box).

I would certainly give a neutral, and rate the shipping accordingly.

In all fairness to the seller. I have gotten items shipped from Amazon that used USPS, and the tracking number did not show up as a valid tracking number until 3 days after I received the item, and that is the point that their computer says it left wherever Amazon was shipping it from...

No offense to anyone that works at USPS, but they have never been known for being the most organized shipper in the world.

I wouldn't slam the seller. I honestly think he / she probably did ship it when promised...

In the future if speediness is important, I would pay the extra to get UPS or FedEx though. Preferrably FedEx. I have had UPS problems in the past too...

Media mail sucks. A few years back it took 30 days to get a package shipped from 4 states away. I would sooner pay more for shipping.

I asked the seller if her post office had a horse and buggy..

Considering the seller already had 32000+ shipments with a 99% satisfaction rating I seriously doubt if he/she was out to take advantage of you.

if you don't get the item, contact the USPS. they take a really dim view of mail fraud.

I dunno... I think the initial information/ tracking number is generated when the user goed on the USPS website, not when they actually hand the package over to the location. So when it says "shipping info recieved", that's all it means. They received the information form the seller and issued a tracking number. So, it's very possible he initiated the process right after the auction, but didn't get his butt to the post office to actually ship out the item...

I'd say positive if you get two packages, and negative if you only get one. In my opinion, it definitely warrants a negative review, as he had your money for more than 2 weeks before shipping you the item.

Sounds like a UPS problem to me. From what I hear, they seem to be pretty good in the US but in Canada they are awful. They've never once got anything right that's been shipped to me. My favourite was a package that arrived in Vancouver (a short ferry ride from me in Victoria) then sat there for a few days, then got shipped to Montreal and sat there a few days then to somewhere in Ontario then eventually back to Vancouver, then over to me. So one day from California to Vancouver and almost two weeks to get to Victoria. The interesting part was that the on-line tracking details were showing all that extra travel until it got back to Vancouver at which time all the extra destinations magically disappeared.

I seem to receive the package before USPS's website updates that they have it.

USPS scans the item when they recieve it. It may take a day or two for the server to update overnight and reflect the information, but the date they show as the mailing date is the date the post office received it, so your seller gave it to the post office on 6/13.

My suspicion would be that he thought he mailed it but had not. When he checked on it and found it, he then mailed it.

I'll keep it short, Wait a couple weeks.

If you get two packages - Leave positive, ain't his fault the mail got screwy.

If only one - Leave positive if you got what you wanted in the end, but dock the **** out of his shipping stars on the review.

I personally only leave neutral if the sale was mutually ended and negative if something is really WRONG.

I have had some similar experiences with USPS. The seller swears up and down that they shipped it. USPS shows "shipping information received."

In the case of tens of thousands of positive feedbacks, I'd give the guy the benefit of the doubt and provide positive feedback, as long as the package eventually materializes.
