All of a sudden, my problems seem pretty trivial...

Sitting here kinda stunned... Just hung up the phone from finding out that my only niece, who I bounced on my knee as a toddler, and is now a beautiful and lively 40-y.o., has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She is scheduled for a lumpectomy on Monday, after which they will decide how aggressively to treat her. I'm told the prognosis is not good.

I'll be sending her prayers and positive vibes, to be sure, but I sure have taken pause to ponder why it is that good people seem to get more than their fair share of bad breaks...

Prayers going up for you and your family. It's a sad thing, but it does seem true that there are a large number of bad things that happen to good people...

i am sorry to hear this. she will be in our prayers.

your question reminded me of a book that someone told me to read and i have not yet. it written by a rabbi, and i believe its called "why bad things happen to good people".

Sorry to hear of such a young woman having that kind of trouble. My wife had it twice...... so far, so good. More prayers coming for your niece.

Thanks guys... I appreciate the poz vibes. Just talked to her on the phone a few minutes ago. She's trying to hold it together for her mother's sake (Mom is a basket case right now) but confides that she is terrified, and really just wants to go to pieces right now. I have tried to reassure her that, if she fights, she can win. She's been in touch with a good cancer support group, where there are many success stories to buoy her spirits. It's just so much reality for a young woman to have on her plate all at once. We will just have to see what Monday brings. I'm going to go out to the shop and busy myself to try to pass the time. Thanks again for caring...

She'll be in our prayers. Be careful in the shop, getting mentally distracted around power tools could make for more troubles in the family....

Tell her not to give up the fight. More and more people are beating cancer.
