Watching in fascination at my package tracking. (rant)

Last Friday, I ordered a box of 50' of 4" dust collection hose from Amazon. I have been watching in fascination as it works its way to its final destination here in coastal Texas. I reversed the order that Amazon prints it in, so it is oldest first...

March 7, 2009 02:35:38 PM Hebron KY US Shipment has left seller facility and is in transit

Okay, so we have LEFT Kentucky and are headed to...

March 9, 2009 05:13:00 PM SHARONVILLE OH US Shipment received by carrier

Okay, now UPS has it in their custody. But wait, how is it that it has left the shipper and is in transit on the 7th, but wasn't received by the carrier until the 9th? Did we have a rip in the time / space continuum? Call the people that write Star Trek!

Okay, so it is now in the UPS system, and is on a truck going somewhere I am guessing...

Now correct me if I am wrong, didn't we just LEAVE Kentucky? Oh yeah...

At last, we are leaving Kentucky... Now off to...

So now we are LEAVING Tennessee, or at least leaving Nashville and moving on....

Okay now we are LEAVING Tennessee, or at least leaving Memphis and Moving on...

March 11, 2009 07:20:00 AM MEMPHIS TN US Departure Scan

I guess there is something in Memphis worth checking out....

With an estimated arrival of March 12th, and the pace it has been taking getting through the UPS system, I don't see HOW this thing is going to make it... I mean after all we still have Arkansas to do some sight seeing through, and then there's coming through Texas, I'm sure that my hose will want to stop off in Dallas, and maybe even go check out the sights in Huntsville, Conroe, and Houston before it gets to my place...

I'm not sure if I should be annoyed with the dawdling since it WAS sent with Free Shipping, but it sure does seem like they are taking their own sweet time with this...

Hebron, KY is the location of the Cincinnati Airport. Sharonville, Ohio is just across the Ohio River.

I don't remember where UPS has major sorting hubs in the east but it might be in Kentucky or Tennessee.

If Amazon told you it will arrive tomorrow, my experience suggests it will get to you tomorrow. How it gets there can be a little strange, but after all shipping IS free!

Oh I know, it just seems weird that it arrives and departs Memphis twice...

If I wanted it faster, I would have paid for expedited shipping. Of course if I wanted it fastest, and didn't care about cost, I would have simply driven to Rockler...

We recieved some Autocad Update software last year per our subscription agreement. The shipping lable said something like 30 day ground. You might have gotten the same type of shipping.

I think that "round the country shipping" is not that uncommon anymore.

Your DC hose has travelled more extensively than I have.

50" feet of DC hose is over-size and wil travel by ground truck. It simply moved south to Nashville from Ohio.. then west to Memphis and I do believe Texas is west of Memphis.

I believe it will be in Texas tomorrow... early enough to get loaded on a "big brown" truck to your door.... I simply can't say. The double arrival scan in Memphis and departure is somewhat of a mystery unless... you have two boxes with each containing 25' of hose?

To pinpoint it a little better, CVG, Cincinnat Airport is just south (outside) of the southern part of I-275, the approx. 80 mile beltway around Cincinnati, and the Sharonville UPS place is just barely south (inside) of the northern part of I-275.

They basically just drove it North on I-75.

I am sure this doesn't help at all. Just interesting.

I know I listed it as a rant, but it was more of a why would they do this sort of post... Specifically the dual arrival / departure scan. And no, it should be one box, single 50 foot box of cheap PSI DC hose... I didn't read the reviews until after I bought it... I hope the reviewers are being overly critical...

Did you get the clear.. re-inforced with wire, D.B.? Is so... I think you will be fine depending on how you use it. I bought 25" of basically the same at P'tree WW'ing to run from a Y off my smaller 1 HP DC that is dedicated to the router table and SCMS. But... I hang around 20' of that clear with wire over a hook for when I use the larger band-saw. I simply have a blast gate off the Y at the DC that can be opened for the BS. I close the blast gate on the router and SCMS.

It hold up fine but.. when I originally got the PSI 1 HP before the cyclone.. it came with 12' of some really cheap.. thin.. paper type material. It actually worked well also but... I would be somewhat concerned if I were going to run 50' of it in a straight run. It might be OK.. but if it is this stuff be caution not to bump it with something sharp or it will puncture.

Oh well.. you'll know tomorrow or the next day with tomorrow being today by the time you probably read this.

                      Good luck with the hose....

I bought in bulk, to make a bunch of short runs, and have extra in case. I have 50' of the 2.5" stuff from Peachtree.

maybe its a 50-mile hose. Then it can be in two cities at the same time.

Okay, that got me laughing. Thanks...

According to UPS, it's out on the truck for Delivery.

For what it's worth, I have a Wynn filter that is on the Fedex truck for delivery today as well. (Curious to see which one gets to the house faster). The shipping was more straight forward with Fedex. Started in Lewisberry PA. Went to Hutchins TX, Hutchins TX to Houston TX, and on the truck to my house...

I've been rather unhappy with the big brown truck since I was in college, and the whiners they had working part time for them went on strike... If I was making what they were working part time, I would have been a happy camper...

To top it off, I was working for a lumber yard / home center at the time, part time of course (For a LOT less money than the crybabies that work for the brown truck company) and we would get deliveries from them, and their drivers were ALWAYS rude...

FWIW, The Fed Ex shipment hit their system on the 9th, got onto the local delivery truck in HOUSTON instead of League City, at 9:30 A.M. (UPS shows loaded for delivery at 6:00 A.M.) and still beat UPS...
