Were they shipped the same day? Did you take the super saving shipping on Amazon? Did you pay for shipping on the filter?

      No, Yes, Yes...

I am pretty sure UPS just routed it wherever they had space to get it there. It just amazes me that there would be that much hands on a package for cheapo shipping. Labor is expensive...

I don't know what amazon has for super-saver shipping, they may have an agreement with the shippers (more than just UPS) where these Amazon shipments (Super saver) take lower priority/space available in exchange for deeper discounts. That could lead to some strange routings. I think the quoted time on amazon for super saver is always longer then regular ground shipping.
You take two big companies like UPS and Amazon with a lot of bucks at stake you'll be amazed at the deals worked out under duress. (e.g. amazon threatening to take their business to the other shippers).

          Fedex deliberately slows down shipping.

Now I sent this Fedex Ground 3-day shipping.
So it left Mar 16 and got to the local depot early March 18. Whoops, too early.
"Package not due for delivery". So they kept it another 24 hours and put it on the delivery truck the next day; deliverered it March 19.

I guess I can't blame them for that. otherwise it would cut into their one and two day service rates. I'm sure it went on the same planes with the faster stuff.

            Package not due for delivery

Notice the time.. 9:32 AM... The package got there on the 18th but it has to arrive before 5AM - 6Am generally to get put on a specific route truck for that day. Route trucks are generally loaded over-nite and out the door by 7 AM.. otherwise it would be the next day. They cannot have trucks come back into the terminal during the day to pick up things that came in as Pappy or anyone in the route business could tell you.

So... the package was delivered the day it was due. If it had for some reason arrived earlier during the night... you would have seen it a day in advance as they don't have room to leave things laying around an already crowded terminal.

BTW.. the last post to DB was spot on... I worked for a company that shipped over 2000 packages a day with UPS and there were deals cut. The Super Saver is probably one of those deals and it will not take the priority of standard ground.. the same as USPS 4th class as opposed to USPS priority. Again... Pappy can confirm that.

So... in that case I feel UPS is not to blame for taking longer. If you had paid for standard shipping up front.. you would have gotten it sooner. Simple as that really... with some things you have to read between the lines to see the big picture.

            Regards...

On 3/22/09 I ordered a new pair of shoes. Following is the UPS tracking info, I shudder anytime that a source ships by them.

              US 03/23/09 11:14 A.M. Billing Info Received
              03/23/09 8:25 P.M. Origin Scan
              Redmond, WA 03/23/09 9:29 P.M Departure Scan
              03/24/09 1:44 A.M. Arrival Scan
03/24/09 3:45 A.M. Incorrect Routing At UPS Facility
              03/24/09 6:45 A.M. Departure Scan
              03/24/09 7:00 A.M. Arrival Scan
              Portland, OR 03/24/09 3:57 P.M. Departure Scan
              Seattle, WA 03/24/09 7:24 P.M. Arrival Scan
              03/25/09 1:16 A.M. Departure Scan
              Redmond, WA 03/25/09 1:52 A.M. Arrival Scan
              03/25/09 3:09 A.M. Departure Scan
              Seattle, WA 03/25/09 3:42 A.M. Arrival Scan

I'm sure glad I paid an extra $5.35 for 3 day shipping.

actually it was scanned at the last facility 7:59 of the 18th
And it was scanned again at 9:32 at which time they indicated it wasn't due yet.
Then that night it was scanned again at 8:21PM and was loaded on a truck at 8:48AM the next morning.
So given that it arguably could have gone out on the same truck the day before at about the same times. Given their notation (i highlited in red) I believe they deliberately delayed it from being delivered a day early.
Am I mad, not really. I'm just interested in their process. I personally would finish a job early if i could but in this case they chose not to either
                1. because it would hurt their faster service if the alwyas delivered ealy on the slower service
                2. because they said they would deliver it on the 19th they actually delivered on the 19th (some people might find too early an issue, i.e. with presents or someone being home at that time).

I personally prefer FedEx. I really like their tracking - it always is up to date and very accurate - including a time notation of when it was left on my front doorstep. I also have noted the departure for delivery scan is almost always exactly 7 am on my FedEx stuff.

You very well may be correct Loring, as I am not really familar with Fed Ex procedures...

Lexington Ky. is the air hub for UPS... I have seen packages going 2 Day Air (which is really 3 days from pick-up to delivery) go from Atlanta to Lexington and then say to Arkansas.. etc. Often I would have customers in say Birmingham, Ala... Greenville, S.C.. Chattanooga.. etc. ask for Next Day Air or 2nd Day Air.. I politely told them that Birmingham is zone 2 from Atlanta and it would ship one day and be there the next anyway.. so save your hard earned money. Some called back after the fact to thank me.
