    Are Your Taxes Done Yet?

Ours aren't filed, but they are done. It took about an hour to get the stuff ready for the accountant and most of that was spent manually entering a month's worth of transactions for my wife's business account into Quicken because I was dumb and downloaded the updated ones tonight but overwrote the last download that I hadn't imported yet...

Last year it took a whole lot longer and involved me tracking down missing statements, getting frowned at by my wife while she tried to total up expenses, etc. This year I built a few reports and let Quicken total it all up.

We're pretty close -- We can't find the folder where we keep all our donation receipts! All we have is the statements from church and a couple odds and ends from the past couple of months... It's probably just misfiled, though, so it's just a matter of time...

Nope - I have started but I haven't finished compiling the necessay data.

I did spend some time researching Tax preparation software and I have decided to switch to TaxAct for this year. The folks at H&R Block raised the price of Taxcut so I thought I would try something else. So far, the free version TaxAct works well. I expect to upgrade to Deluxe version before I complete my return.

I am filing out the forms that deal with international living and salary. It takes a specialized accountant to do ours. Most accountants don't know the ins and outs of this and as a result don't allow the proper deductions. At least now, I can fill out my forms and send them back electronically.

It isn't even time to file for an extension yet, let alone work on the taxes

I have computed mine, but I owe both the Feds and the State, so I'm not filing until April.

Did 940 and 941 last weekend and got W2's out and filed W3. Did state payroll, unemployment and sales taxes this weekend. I'll get 1065 and K1's done in the next couple of weeks and then I can START on my taxes. The school had my wife's W2 to her January 3.

I pay my real and personal property taxes, then download the forms, back in December. I figured them, and just need to redo, the final forms for mailing.

Simple for us - no state, just Fed, so turbotax works nice. Have completed it all, just need to review and submit.

And since I use taxes as a form of saving money, I'm gonna get a refund of $8800 .

Combine that with the fact that our property taxes dropped drastically because of the general drop in property rates and hence we received a 'refund' from the escrow for $4400, we seem to have made out okay for savings in 08!

Pity is LOML needs to sign off on both, so she's fully aware of the money in the pipeline . Ah well, guess I have to think up some way to sneak-buy the first LV plane I have been promising myself .
