It is truly amazing that we have managed this peacefully for well over two centuries.
I tried to make that point to someone after the Bush-Gore fiasco that it turned out alright in the end. They thought it was because I got my candidate. I had to set them straight that in many countries that could have led to civil war.
I'm ultra-conservative and I thought his speech today was excellent; it hit on goals nearly all of us, as Americans, can agree on. Where we disagree is how to achieve them. That battle begins tomorrow.Chr's

Yeah, I know exactly how you feel. I just hate it when something historically significant is covered by the news -- especially when it's a matter of national pride. . . .and a good parade always bums me out, too. So I think I'll crawl back into my cave now where it's peaceful.

well, there was a momentary blip in the 1860's, it happened not when the new president (Lincoln) took office, but soon after a bunch of states decided to bolt. There followed a very bloody war over states rights that pitted brother against brother in some instances and still has some effect on racial tensions and political alliances today.

True, but nobody questioned his legitimacy as president, and power transferred peacefully. Regardless of how (or if) you voted, the choice of the majority took over the most powerful office in the nation today. President Obama, over these last few weeks seems to be poised to hit the ground running. What he needs now is the support of ALL the people.Don, aka Pappy,

LOML told me he has an appearance to make at some ball at like 2AM, and his first morning meeting is about 5 hours later. Ugh. I think we'll see him age quickly... Bush looked pretty young on inauguration day, too...online at http://www.theFrankes.com

From a leadership & change perspective, he definitely was able to inspire across multiple demographics and inspired the people to be together. This afternoon, I saw a 7 year old kid being interviewed on TV who repeated what the president said during his inaugural speech i.e. better health care, infrastructure, education, renewable energy, etc.
I wish my daughter was old enough to witness this.
Best of luck to him!
Kind regards,Chris

Just saw on Fox where President Obama took the correct oath of Office in the Oval Office today. There was some discussion as to weather it was done properly yesterday morning.
Which means we were without a President for 24 hours?
You should always use the cue cards even if you are the Chief Justice.

Oath has little to do with taking of the office. The amendment which moved inaugaration from March 4 to January also declared the President-elect becomes President and assumes the duties at Noon. Several Presidents have listened to someone rattle off the 35 words and then responded with "I do"
inaugarated and invigorated

You beat me to the punch. Obama became the official U.S. Presdent at Noon even before he took the oath mis-worded by the Chief Justice at around 12:20 PM. They did it again latter in the Map Room just for caution as the Constitution is "sticky" about the exact wording it appears.Oath has little to do with taking of the office. Two other Presidents have re-taken the oath.. Coolidge and Chester Arthur.
