    Prayer Request

I will try and remember what kind of website this is but I in the ICU with my wife of almost 29 years and am spending a little time on-line. I sent out an email update to a large list from our church a few minutes ago and decided to post one here too.

Jan had a stroke on December 23rd for no apparent reason. She had no risk factors we are aware of and is 52. It was as bad a stroke as you can get but God was watching over us, I believe, and I found her within an hour of when it happened. She got worse as I was evaluating what to do and I called an ambulance. They used a clot busting drug on her as long as is safe or possibly a little more. She had bleeding on her brain after the procedure on the 23rd but it was mostly reabsorbed by her CAT on the early morning of the 24th. We thought she was getting better and were looking for her to wake up on the 25th as we left about 10pm but I got a all at 1:30am that she was worse and I have been here with her since 2am. She has had another CAT scan but we do not have those results yet. Her brain is swelling or has swelled for reasons that are not clear. Her pupils were not dialating in response to light when they called me and they still are not. She is getting a drug to help her body deal with the swelling.

If you pray and see this, please remember my wife in your prayers. We do not know God's will for her right now but I am still praying for a complete recovery. My 26 year old son and 23 year old daughter have been here with me since it happened but I am letting them get a few hours of badly needed sleep right now. Jan's sister and her husband will arrive sometime today. We have a lot of people praying but more would be appreciated.

    Jim,

We are praying for Jan and for you with all of our heart. Let us know how she is progressing when you are able, but the main thing is for you to be with your family and Jan. Also know that we are here for you.

Jim, it's amazing what prayer can do. I have seen it first hand many times. I pray that your wife is looked after as to the Lords will. And should He not answer as we would like, I pray that He look after you and you family.

This is the kind of website this is. One family looking out for each other.

I really appreciate your prayers. I too believe that they make a huge difference.

I do not have much of an update but got to ask a few questions of a physician but have not spoken with the neurologist. I'm sure we will soon and I doubt we learn much but we will ask our questions. My daughter is more optomistic about Jan's response in your left hand to our questions. She clearly squeezes our hands but it is just not clear whether it is in response to us or just because that is what she wanted to do. Jacqueline feels strongly she got a strong response so we will go with that for now.

The key encouraging input is that Jan's movement backward is pretty normal for a serious stroke and the doctor is still confident that it is due to the swelling. She will be more responsive when the swelling goes down which she is getting a drug to accomplish. The other thing I found encouraging is she can stay in this state for days or possibly even more and still fully recover.

The range of outcomes still ranges from a full recovery to her death. We appreciate your prayers because we believe it will help her achieve the former.

                        Jim
