Well, for many people, all that matters is the color of one's skin.

It is kinda a third rail.

Well, I guess in many respects we still haven't come far enough... Maybe 44 will come across this site on his Blackberry and weigh in with his opinion. ...still waiting to hear from 39 in here, and he's practically in the biz!

Sometimes the topic of a conversation needs to be sidetracked with deftness and humour. Am I slow, or just without humour?

Folks bear with me for a hijack:
Our last presidential election had both candidates from the top two parties liberals. Just look at John's voting record. The conservative side of the republican party really has little use for John other than agreement that he is a War Hero. Since we had two liberals running the vote was decided based on which candidate they hopefully thought would lead our country in a positve direction. Surely race played a factor. What I find real remarkable is the voters have said Race no longer matters in this country! Sure there are those that hold tight to their strongly held racist views. Wellsir that is just a fact of life. It is not just us Americans with this problem. Racism is a worldwide problem....../hijack!

We need to end this bickering at the public level. Thankfully many members have given the right way to deal with problem posts. If someones post offends you PM that poster. If you think the post is in violation of the forum's rules use the built in "report post" or email or PM myself or one of the Moderators. If a fellow member's post irritate you add that member to your "ignore user list."

I have found that most of your "Incendiary" comments provoke some very lively discussions. I myself have done some trolling from time to time but I keep it pretty low key when I do it and limit it to the coffee pot forum.
Sometimes a place needs someone to stir the pot as it were.

I can see where someone might be offended, but they would have to impute a mindset to you from a conglomeration of your posts. I don't recall anything you've ever said that made me think you were a racist, so I take it as edgy humor.
I don't think asking for people to 'take sides', as it were, was the best strategy here. As others have stated, pm's probably could have remedied this.
Personally, I can't believe anyone wanted this job! Remember, he was running for President long before the s hit the f. I wish him nothing but the best!

                  Ed,

As my dear late mother used to say, "Screw 'em if they can't take a joke".

Without you, life would be sooo boring.

As often is the case my sarcasm was either missed or ignored by many.

Nope, Ed, I think that most would find it humorous. I believe that you have been a long time member in good standing and that IMHO I dont agree with the persons statement. Further, looking back through that persons last several posts, very few had much to do with woodworking at all. Thats not to say that we cant post off topic on this site, but for most we are here for the woodworking. Anyway, hopefully people will let bygones be bygones as you are sincere in your apology and no harm was meant.

                                Ed,

I apologize, I voted wrong. With out my bi-focals, I read the first choice as appropriate, not inappropriate. I voted before I read the other choices. Please consider your tally as one more for you and one less against. I don't always agree with things said on this forum, but I see few things as inappropriate. When that happens our good moderators turn things around or turn them off. By all means, keep posting.
