    Cool Hand Luke is gone.

Paul Newman has passed away. He passed away at home with is his family from Cancer at the age of 83. Being involved in racing I had the privledge of meeting him at Laguna Seca in 1992. Very nice man to talk to especially about racing, really didn't care to talk about the movies and acting. One of the truly great actors just plain people of our time.

We're not much for the movies any more, but we'd be sure to see anything he made.

I respected him for his humility and the fact that he stayed married to the same woman for so long.

From Cool Hand Luke, one of the greatest movies ever:

Luke: Let him go. Bam, Bam.

Dragline: Knock it off, Luke. You can't talk about Him that way.

Luke: Are you still believin' in that big bearded Boss up there? You think he's watchin' us?

Dragline: Get in here. Ain't ya scared? Ain't ya scared of dyin'?

Luke: Dyin'? Boy, he can have this little life any time he wants to. Do ya hear that? Are ya hearin' it? Come on. You're welcome to it, ol' timer. Let me know you're up there. Come on. Love me, hate me, kill me, anything. Just let me know it.
            [He looks around]

Luke: I'm just standin' in the rain talkin' to myself.
            Jeff

The Sting is my favorite. Cool Hand Luke is second.

Rather Ironic, I was watching "The Sting" last night (my favourite one) and was wondering how he moved towards car racing while Redford continued with movies (both acting and directing).

A great actor! He will be missed.

A class act, pun intended. We'll always have his movies.

Maybe it's because I was a communications specialist for 30+ years, but the line I always remember from a Paul Newman movie is, "What we have here, is a failure 'ta communicate!" Spoken twice in 'Cool Hand Luke', once by Strother Martin, and later by Paul Newman.

We saw Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid one night, then saw The Sting the next night. Totally different movies, and 2 of my favorites of his (both with Robert Redford). He certainly will be missed.

The quality of his acting I most admired was how he continued to improve with age. Two of the movies that are great to watch back to back is "The Hustler" and then "The Color of Money". In the first he is the kid in the second he is the mentor. and after a bunch of Academy Award nominations he one with the Color of Money.

With all of his talent as an actor he was also a force in racing. And a huge force in charity.

                              He will be missed!
