    Get Smart--worth seeing?

It'll be interesting to see how this movie turns out. I like Steve Carell, but in general I don't care for TV series turned into movies. In fact, I have a hard time thinking of even one I liked. There are a bunch of failures out there, some of which made a bit of money...

The Star Trek movies have been pretty good, but don't quite have the charm of either the original or the Next Generation IMO.

Can you think of any movie out there adapted from a TV series which has lived up to or exceeded the TV series?

i saw a review that said get smart was OK.
The Fugitive was a good remake.
most of the others were losers.
Avengers had to be the all time worst.

First Superman with Chris Reeves was really good. Second and third not so much.

I really enjoyed Starsky and Hutch. IMHO Stiller and Wilson seemed to pull the characters out. They didn't copy the originals; they made their own personallities and still you could relate them to the first Starsky and Hutch. I could have left Snoop Dogg as Huggy though.

I'm not big on movies from tv series but this one I really enjoyed.

As far as Star Trek is concerned, the original series movies benefitted from movie studio special effects that took the place of poorly done 1960s low budget TV effects. Those were some truly enjoyable films.

The Next Generation films however really made me hate LaForge, Riker, Picard, and Data. And is it my imagination, or did Counselor Troi look like she'd been strung out on coke for 2 years prior to filming?

I can't imagine any women being quite as delectable as Barbara Felton. That overbite was so,so sexy.

Drawing a blank on this right now but can think of one the other way, movie to TV. M.A.S.H. Movie was good, TV show was one of the best ever.

As to Get Smart, loved the show even if it was silly. But from the previews, it looks to me like they are taking over the top. Seems like so many TV to movie attempts feel the need to take it to the next level and then overdo it. But I will probably rent it anyway (never go to theater anymore).

                Serenity from Firefly.
Half of the Batmans from Batman TV.

That's all I can think of except those already mentioned.

Battlestar Gallactica is the best reincarnation of old TV show to new TV show,
                though.

Galactica can't even be compared, really. The new one is HUGELY better than the original, though I enjoyed both. Completely different approach. I'm hoping Get Smart is good, loved the show.

Serenity and Firefly are also in a league of their own. Adored by the happy minority. I loved both, shame they didn't catch on.

I also hope that eventually there are new movies made, not just remake after remake after remake....

                    tv to movies

How about "Maverick" with Mel Gibson and Jodi Fields. IMHO better than the original TV series. Also a nice touch bringing in the original Maverick, James Garner as Maverick's Dad.

Wasn't there a Get Smart movie already, with the original cast? The naked bomb or something? Maybe that one was made for tv, I'm too lazy to google it.

that would be Jodie Foster. And yes, that Maverick remake was pretty good. Thanks for reminding me.

and for Kirkroy, there was the Nude Bomb
                        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Nude_Bomb
which was a bomb at the box office. A spoof on a spy spoof... they had Don Adams in the role of 86 and the plot was Kaos had a bomb that woudl destroy clothes and leave the person standing. Kaos cornered the market on clothing and was going to deploy the bomb.
