We ended up with about 7 inches, nothing unusual for this time of year.

It seems like every year now each and every weather event becomes a bigger deal. Anybody else amused by the media? Or annoyed?

Ain't that the truth. What really cracks me up is that two teasers are necessary before getting to the actual weather report. And this is SoCal where there isn't any weather to report!

We've had to plow the driveway 3 times in the past 2 weeks...but it's nothing but mud & slush out there now.

Call me wierd, but I love snow. Skiing, sledding, shoveling and driving in it. What I hate is the warm up after a nice fluffy snowfall. I need to move back to a place where it stays below freezing for more than a day or so.

The boy and I got a few runs down the hill on his sled yesterday morning before the rain-on-snow had us sopping wet and miserable.

          Snow report

Here in the Victoria area of Vancouver Island we had a little snow over the weekend but mostly lots & lots of rain. North of the Malahat the snow was pretty serious and some folk are still digging out.
Personally, I like a week of snow every winter; 3 days to enjoy it, 4 days to remember why we're glad we moved here from Alberta.

Lived in Minnesota my whole life. Complain about the snow and ice every winter, too stubborn/lazy to do anything about it though. :P

I spent 35 years living in the Northeast -- New Jersey, Vermont, Connecticut, and Massachusetts -- and have seen more than my share of snow. It's pretty when it's falling and for about a day afterward, but then it's just a nuisance, particularly in the city. I can remember more than a few times driving in sleet and snow and don't care if I never do it again. Now I'm in southern California and can drive an hour or so to the snow whenever I want it. Best of all, I can leave it behind when I'm done.

                Not snow Ice!!

I posted early in this thread that I had a dusting of snow. I have now received over 1 1/2" of ice! I lost power sometime Saturday night. I hope to have power again before the week is out. The power line to my house is laying on the ground for about 1/2 a block. Going outside Sunday afternoon, it sounded like a firing range or battlefield, from all of the noise from branches breaking all around town. I had to clear out my drive way twice before I could leave. I went back to check on my house Monday, and my wife got brushed by a falling limb as we were leaving. We have been staying with my dad, who is also without power, but has heat. My power company is reporting about 56,000 without power. There was over 61,000 at one time. I am ready for spring!

I feel for you, Bill. We have some ice, but nothing like you have in your area. It sure makes it hard to get around, and it's dangerous!

                    Bill,

I certainly don't mean to minimize the awfull mess this ice storm is making. But, some of that cracking you hear is LUMBER.

                    When the storm clears, a chain saw and a truck . . . .

                      lumber

I wish I could harvest the lumber from the fallen trees! I must say that as I look everywhere around there is a lot of it.

I need to trim almost every tree I have, but my chain saw is electric. I hope to have power by the weekend. I am staying with my dad, and he finally got power last night about 6 PM. It has been inconveinent, but we have stayed warm, safe and ok.

Our forecast has a chance of sleet or maybe some light freezing rain, then this weekend snow, with a chance of accumulation. I hate winter.

We have about a foot or foot-and-a-half of snow on the ground right now. Sure is pretty, and actually makes one feel WARMER when it's on the ground. Now nobody is complaining about what is was like in the old days, why can't we have a white Christmas, etc. At this rate we'll have a white EASTER!

Came across this footage--can't verify it's from Texas, but it is sure proof of why Southerners and those not used to snow and ice should just stay at home when the weather's bad:

I once lived in Chicago for one winter (more than enough). That year, the temp stayed around 11˚ below 0 and hard core Chicago residents kept remarking how mild it was.

I had a friend who taught at the University of Wisconsin and he used to spend weekends with me to "warm up".

When I heard that the summers were as bad as the winters, I fled back to NY.

I swore I wouldn't complain about NY City winters until the year we moved up here to Nanuet (only 33 miles north of NYC, but boy is it colder and do we get snow.

                            I HATE THE WINTER.

I just moved the snow blower to the front of the shop. I filled both of my gas cans and started the snow blower and let it warm up. Then blew the leafs out of the driveway. They are saying 4" tomorrow, I guess i'm ready, but not looking forward to it.
